Over/Under on Auburn getting stripped of their title

  • bucks36
I am going to set the over/under at 32 months. What do you have??
  • centralbucksfan
Who knows, very doubtful it ever gets stripped IMO. But it was amazing how little time they(espn) spent on the Cam "situation" compared to what ESPN spent on the OSU "situation" prior to the game. Sure didn't hear blow hard May say much at all, if anything on it. But he sure got his air time on OSU.

The biggest problem with ESPN covering a sport is that they have to increase viewership. And talking about how this is an illegitimate title game is not a way to do it. It's the nature of the beast.

I say over/under should be 24 months. I think it will happen in 18 months.
  • Con_Alma
I don't expect it to happen at all.

I tend to agree, and IMO, it will happen

Count me in as one who thinks over/under 24 months.

Under. I think it will happen during the 2011 calendar year.

The BCSCG checks have been cashed. The wiretaps will be released 1/31/11. Beware the Ides of March. Justice will be swift and deadly.

Is the 1/31/11 just speculation on your part, or did you read/hear that somewhere?

I do think this will be one of the most short lived titles ever. It'll be gone within the calendar year.

I don't think this title will be stripped because auburn ruled cam ineligible, then the ncaa said he was eligible. Wouldn't make sense for the ncaa to strip the title when they overturned his ineligible ruling

+1.. They cant tell them that he is eligible and then punish them for playing him. UNLESS Auburn was supposed to declare him ineligible again and check back in with the NCAA to see if he is eligible.

#1- Nothing the NCAA does makes sense. They rule on inconsistency and make decisions based on THEIR best interests, not in the interests of the schools, athletes, or sports themselves. The NCAA's biggest worry is the NCAA, and they will ALWAYS look out for #1.
#2- The NCAA ruled Cam Newton eligible because they 'couldn't find any evidence linking him to the Cecil Newton pay-for-play scheme' and, at the time, had not found any evidence linking Auburn to it either. That's their story. The real reason is probably because they knew, without Cam Newton, the BCSNG would be a dud that no would watch and they would lose money without him on that field. Refer to point 1. Just as they did with Terrelle Pryor and the rest of the OSU 5, it was in the best interest of the NCAA for Cam Newton to play. So he did.

He was ruled eligible at the time because no evidence had been found linking him to his father's little pay-for-play scheme. If evidence is found in the future linking him to this, I think he could still be declared retroactively ineligible.

I have my doubts that this happens but, if it does, I think the punishment Auburn gets will be worse than USC. This situation is either going to be quietly swept under the rug and forgotten about or the NCAA is going to be in the middle of an investigation that goes far beyond Cecil Newton's pay-for-play scheme. Basically, Auburn's getting off scot-free or they're going to be in a boat load of trouble. I don't think there's a middle ground here.

Derrick Rose? Ask Memphis how that went for them.

It's really hard to tell. Depends on how far the FBI is into their investigation. Once the NCAA gets the goods, I don't think it will be long. Also, it won't just be the Cam Newton deal, it will involve MANY players, imo. I did laugh at the Army All-American game when the best player in Alabama decommitted to 'Bama and chose Auburn. I think that was a shady deal.

Put me in the category of those who think it will NEVER be stripped.
  • Trueblue23
Won't ever happen, especially since they didn't take USC's title.
  • #1DBag
The BCS awarded the title, not the NCAA.
  • vball10set
it's inevitable that Auburn will get sanctioned--I doubt their title will get stripped or that Newton will lose the Heisman, but there will be penalties, etc.
  • mella
    Nothing will happen.

Auburn graduates will still have these priceless memories of that epic day at Walmart when they got a picture with the trophy.
