Stanford interested in Chris Petersen

  Apparently, Stanford is looking NE at towards Boise for their next Head Coach.
  
  Anyone think Petersen would/is ready to leave Boise State for a AQ school?
  
  He's been rocking out at Boise State and has a pretty sweet gig. The only thing I can see swaying him is the $$$$$

  In my opinion, Stanford lost the #2 good coach who was most likely to be heading to greener pastures sooner rather than later. Might as well go after #1.

  I don't think Peterson leaves Boise for Stanford. You get Andrew Luck for one season and then after that, the party is over. If I were him, I'd pick a better situation

  Smh. Hawkins was successful because of Peterson. Remember? Boise wasn't exactly heart broken when he left. They hired Peterson like 5 minutes later. Hawkins was mostly a CEO type IMO

  Pretty sure if you had ever stepped foot on the Stanford campus you would think differently.
  
  Moving into the new Pac 12 and currently having the upper hand on USC and Notre Dame makes Stanford a pretty hot spot. They may not have a 90k seat stadium that is full every week but Palo Alto can make up for that.

  yeah Stanford is definitely not a top 25 destination in college football. Fans are pretty apathetic (thousands of empty seats at their stadium during the stretch run), there are more prestigious football programs in state, high academic standards make pickings slim, and they have some sort of cap on how much they will pay their athletic coaches.

  Stanford gig worked out pretty well for Harbaugh, it's not a destination but there really are only a handful that are.

  We saw how this worked out with Hawkins. You can say it was all Peterson, but people thought it was a great hire when he went to Colorado.

  Petersen may have the best gig in the country at the moment. The sentiment for Boise as the little guy who has been cheated too many times has converted a lot of people. There has to be a year coming soon where there are not multiple undefeated AQ schools and the first time Boise IS undefeated in that situation (which should happen virtually every season), they're in the title game. Not only does he have a better chance at going undefeated there, now there's no other real non-AQ threat (TCU) to steal his thunder. Why go where the competition is, when you have the whole country fooled already?
  
  Of course, the one wrench would be if there's one undefeated AQ school that isn't from the SEC...and the SEC Champ only has one loss.

  Stanford is a great job, IMO. Beautiful campus and weather. Can recruit nationwide, due to the academic reputation. Don't have high expectations. And Harbaugh has proven that you can win. Another thing with Stanford, is you are getting smart kids, so you can probably get a little more complex with your schemes and playbook than maybe some other schools could.

  I agree that is a good job, but I think the academics would really hamstring recruiting.....over time. ND has the same issues

  I don't think academics are a good reason for not being successful. Its a bad excuse that Notre Dame haters and some Notre Dame fans use. A good coach can develop the really smart kids just as easy as he can coach up the kids who struggle to qualify. If you can coach, you can coach.

  I don't know, I think it's valid. You miss out on those box-o-rocks freak athletes that have no other destination than the league. A lot of true Blue chippers need not even apply.

  Notre Dame just has different expectations.
  
  There are smart kids all over the country who want to pick a school as much for academics as athletics. Sure, they might be more rare to find, but they are out there.
  
  You might be correct, but I think academics are an advantage at Standford.
  
  You look at their roster and they have guys from all over the country, and not many schools can say that.

  Completely agree that you are somewhat limited in recruiting, but again, you can get into living rooms that you normally wouldn't be able to. The head coach at Stanford calls John Doe's dad in New Jersey and says they are interested, and right away he's listening. There are just a handful of schools across the US with the prestige of Standford, and that can offer football scholarships (Ivy league doesn't offer athletic scholarships).

  I'm not disagreeing that they might miss out on the chance to bring in some guys, but there are more than enough athletes out there that are good enough students as well as athletes for them to be competitive. Its a matter of recruiting the right kids and then coaching them up once they get on campus. Since wes mentioned ND, I just wanted to say that I don't use the academics as an excuse for the recent struggles. A great recruiter, coach, developer etc can overcome those couple of blue chip guys that aren't available. Davie, Willingham, and Weis had deficiencies in one or more of those things. The jury is still out on Kelly, but he at least seems to be on the right path.
