Paterno Denies Bolden's Request
-
se-alumPaterno has denied Robert Bolden's request for transfer. Sounds like Bolden and Newsome both want out.

OneBuckeyeWhat a bunch of tards. Why would they both want out? McGloin threw a bunch of picks, how could they not think they have a chance to beat him out? If they do try again and transfer I think you can gift wrap Cardale Jones to PSU.

thedynasty1998WTF were they thinking in going to Penn State anyways? Paterno can't even remember what he had for breakfast, let alone be able to evaluate talent and sign a release.
-
OneBuckeyeRight, I don't blame Newsome. He or Paul Jones should have been the starting QB this year, but the PSU coaching or their talent evaluation for QBs must suck. Bolden should have red shirted and got some experience, I think now that he got a taste he doesn't want to sit behind opie. Also PSU's coaching staff is a mess and they don't play well together, that could be a major reason too.
-
thedynasty1998I really don't know the inner workings of the coaching situation or these players situations, and I was obviously joking with my first comment.
But how in the world can you take a staff serious with Paterno at the helm? I respect him as much as the next person, but someone at Penn State needs to grow a set and tell JoPa that his time is up. If for no other reason than to avoid a complete PR nightmare with him collapsing on the sidelines during a game. -

This. IMO McGloin basically threw the game away with those 5 picks. Without him, Florida loses. Surely they would feel like they could beat him out next year. -

Since it appears that his coordinators do most of the work, I think it's easy to take a staff seriously. As long as a team has good coordinators in place, a head coach does not need to be heavily involved with the schemes.thedynasty1998;626992 wrote:I really don't know the inner workings of the coaching situation or these players situations, and I was obviously joking with my first comment.

I understand that, but as long as they continue to put Paterno in front of cameras and a microphone, they will be a joke to me. -
se-alumBolden doesn't seem like he welcomes competition, so I'm not sure why they would want to keep him around. I can kinda understand Newsome wanting to go.

Perhaps. But there has to be a face of the program, and someone to finish in recruiting -- which is usually the same person. I don't think it's a coincidence that PSU is having a really bad recruiting year so far. JoPa's obvious decline has got to be a factor in this. At what point do you finally acknowledge that your figurehead coach is hurting your program? -
CinciX12Never really understood the not granting player's a release decision. Now all you have is a pissed off guy on your hands.

Sadly, I could totally see something like this happening someday in the near future if he doesn't quit here soon. Do you think that would lead off PTI? -

jordo212000Kinda odd that he wouldn't grant the kid his release. Not very classy IMO. Every time I watched McGloin it was obvious why he was a walk on (subpar ball skills and arm strength). McGloin may be a good leader and he may try hard in practice, but if he's the best you have to offer, you are in big big trouble.
That being said, pretty weak on Bolden's part. It's well established that McGloin is awful. You show up in spring and play halfway decent, the job is yours. -
se-alumI hope McGloin keeps the starting job so the Bucks can beat up on him. Kid was awfully cocky in the first half of the game this year, not so much since then.

Yea he was and he's stunk it up since the end of the 1st half in Cols. -
Midstate01If psu has ever received a kid who transfers in from another school, the this is completely hypocritical of Joe pa.
-
Big GainWho would want to play for a head coach who drools?. He probably didn't notice the drooling until after he signed LOI.

When that figurehead has to race to the locker room in the middle of the game because he just shit himself on the sidelines. -

That is the thing that pisses me off, probably more so than anything, regarding NCAA rules. A scholarship is a one year commitment. A coach can choose to not renew the scholarship at any time (see the SEC), but a kid decides to leave and he needs permission from the coach?
It's a one way street in the wrong direction. -

It is very hypocritical. That said, I hope there is more to the story because that just does not seem like something I would expect Jo Pa to do, especially with the number of highly touted QBs they have.thedynasty1998;628030 wrote:That is the thing that pisses me off, probably more so than anything, regarding NCAA rules. queencitybuckeyeIf a scholarship is a "one year contract" as pointed out in threads discussing coaches "firing" players, why should a kid need permission?

Lol..yeah, no shit. Inquiring minds want to know. -

It's complete bullshit. A player can transfer without being "released", but you need to be "released" from your current school in order to pursue a scholarship elsewhere. Just makes no sense at all.
