Yeah, the Sugar Bowl should have taken Michigan State :/

Remember when there was a debate if MSU should get a BCS Bowl over OSU? Well if the Alabama-MSU game didn't already prove that, the ratings sure did. That's impressive, especially for a late Tuesday night game. -
osu45804That's why they were not suspended this game... MONEY, The NCAA got their money for these ratings, merchandise ect... Now it's time to sit them for meaningless regular season games in the NCAA's eyes.

karen lotzLast night's game received a few points lower ratings than last year's Sugar Bowl. Florida vs a coachless Cincinnati.

Last years game was on a weekend night too. Plus how many people in Arkansas have ESPN? -

You are correct the Sugar Bowl last year was played January 1st which was Friday Night.
Also nobody was left in Arkansas their whole state was in New Orleans. -

I've gotta say....that's surprising. But that was Tim Tebow's last college game in last year's Sugar Bowl so that may have been the reason. Last night had the SEC-OSU subplot as well as the controversy surrounding OSU players for NCAA violations.
I thought the game last night would have had better ratings. Arkansas doesn't really have that star quality that a lot of other programs do though. -

elbuckeye28Not really surprising the the ratings were good but not quite as good as last year's game. That game being on Jan. 1 and on a Friday played a role I'm sure. Not to mention, Tim Tebow is one of the most popular players ever and his last game garnered a lot of interest. Just look at his jersey sales this year.

Well this was the worst match ups of BCS bowls this year and maybe one of the worst in BCS history. -
elbuckeye28By the way, the fact that these bowl games are being played on cable TV, compared to regular TV in the past, will likely play a role in the ratings as well.

Doesn't matter. Tiger implied last year's Sugar Bowl ratings were greater than last night because it was played on New Year's Day which happened to be a weekend night. That is what I was responding to. -

How many people in arkansas have TV period?
...hell how many have electricity? -

Friday Night is usually a death slot in terms of TV ratings, as people tend to go out. That actually makes it more surprising. -

That friday night was new years day, so everyone was watching bowl games already and still nursing hangovers. Your logic does not apply here. -

It's a bad time for scripted shows, but I am not so sure this applies with sports. I mean how often do people go to a bar to watch an episode of The Office or have a big party for CSI(finales excluded). Besides people generally like to watch sports at the time they are on, rather than waiting until the next day. -

It's not a fair comparison though. Oklahoma-UConn was going to have a low rating no matter what day or time it was on. I think the point is that it would have been even lower on a Tuesday compared to the weekend(although we will never know for sure). -

True, but when people go to bars to watch sports it's not necessarily going to show in the ratings, as the TV at home is still off -

8.4 rating was 2nd highest rating for a college football game on ESPN. You are shit. -

Yeah that is a flaw with the ratings. I was just trying to point out that sports are more conducive to a normal weekend's activities, than a scripted show.
