ESPN Fires Ron Franklin

  • wildcats20
ESPN fires Ron Franklin after calling Jeanne Edwards "sweet baby" and an expletive, which of course was "bitch." This happened during a meeting before the Fiesta Bowl.

I'm gonna miss hearing his voice during college basketball games, kind of the voice of the Big 12.

Yeah I always liked Ron Franklin. Obviously he is a moron for using those words with people around him

I just don't understand why ESPN keeps letting these women out of the kitchen....
  • Little Danny
What he said was inappropriate and set ESPN up for a sexual harassment lawsuit, but....

they kept the one jewish announcer who said F Jesus and Ms. Hill who makes racially comments on a daily basis. Not so much for consistency....

People sure are soft these days. Why didn't she just fire back or slap, then the both of them move on?

Ah, the article just says [expletive] so I figured it was bitch.

I am trying to find the article I read from earlier but can't, I thought it was in Yahoo but now the same article is posted in Yahoo that just says [expletive]

He was definitely up there as far as basketball goes. Kind of the voice of the Big 12.

he called her sweetcheeks to which she replied "don't call me that." he then replied back "ok, then you're an asshole."

I'm curios as to the context of these statements. From what Karen is describing, it sounds like was not acting like some 40 year old man oggling over a busty high school cheerleader by calling her "sweet-cheeks", it sounds as if he was saying in a condescending manner based on some action/comment that she had taken. When he called her an asshole, he just repeated it again a harsher manner. He could have very easily made the same comment to any colleague-- male, female, young or old. I am curious as to what she said or did to elicit his comments. Maybe she actually is an asshole and deserved what she got.

They were in a production meeting for a bowl game and he and a couple of the TV guys were discussing the game. She offered her opinion on something and he said something like "why don't you leave this to the men, sweet cheeks" Sports By Brooks had story about it the day it happened but I didn't think anything would come of it other than Franklin being pulled from the Fiesta Bowl broadcast.

Thought it was "Sweet Baby" not "Sweet Cheeks"?

    Actually we are both wrong.

As Gilmore, Cunningham and Franklin discussed the subject, Edwards tried to join the conversation.
When she did, Franklin said to her, “Why don’t you leave this to the boys, sweetcakes.”
Edwards responded to Franklin by saying, “don’t call me sweetcakes, I don’t like being talked to like that.”
Franklin then said, “okay then, a–hole.”
After the meeting Edwards reported Franklin’s comments to ESPN management.

To what I understand, this wasn't his first offense when it came to stuff like this.

(someone else may have mentioned that, but I'm too lazy to read the thread)

Is there any ESPN personality that isn't a complete frat boy asshole?
