Cinci, TCU or Boise: Most over-rated?
-
dlazzCinci gets my vote, TCU in a close second. Before all of the pro-Cinci idiots come in here and say "DBLAZZ UR SO WRONG CINCI DA BOMB", hear me out.
They haven't played ANYBODY, and they won't play ANYBODY all year. The same argument can be had for TCU and Boise, but at least they put up a fight in bowl games.

OneBuckeyeBSU.. is the most overrated. Only one win worth anyting. I think they are good though, but with their schedule they have only been able to prove it once. Cincinatti has had the best schedule of the 3 IMO... but their D sucks and havent run into a great defensive team. TCU is good, I am not sure how good.... its hard to tell with all those BYU and Utah team because I never watch them.
-
dlazzI would tend to agree with you. Boise seems to hold their ground when it comes bowl-game time, so I tend to give them the edge. TCU hasn't played anybody, and while Cinci has played the "best" schedule out of those three...that isn't saying anything either. The Big East is terrible.

2004: lost to Louisville in the Liberty Bowl
2005: lost to Boston College in the MPC Computers Bowl
2006: beat OU by 1 point in the Fiesta Bowl
2007: lost to ECU in the Hawaii Bowl
2008: lost to TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl -
FootwedgeNone of them are overated. They are ranked appropriately. Any one of them could beat Texas, Bama or Florida...would be a mild upset.
-
enigmaaxSo you admit Cincy has played the best schedule of the three, but that isn't saying much? The schedule might not mean much if you compared them to Florida, Bama, Texas, but you are specifically comparing them to TCU and Boise. All are undefeated, Cincy beat better teams.
Boise lost to TCU in a bowl game just last year and TCU has won their last four bowl games in a row. Is that "holding their ground"?
It is also funny that people use the Boise bowl win in 2006/07 as proof they can play with the big boys, but conveniently leave out the fact that the very next season they lost to 4-9 Washington.
As pointed out on another thread, Cincy's defense has gone in the wrong direction the last few games, but overall, they haven't been all that bad. TCU's seems to be pretty clearly better and there is probably an argument for either of those teams being the best of the three. Boise doesn't come close to having the credentials of either of those teams. -

Didn't have a chance to look that up, but I didn't think they'd done anything noteworthy besides that one win. Thanks for posting this.CharlieHog wrote: 2004: lost to Louisville in the Liberty Bowl

And OSU lost to a bad Purdue team this year. I guess they should be left out of the BCS conversation too.enigmaax wrote: It is also funny that people use the Boise bowl win in 2006/07 as proof they can play with the big boys, but conveniently leave out the fact that the very next season they lost to 4-9 Washington. -

All of those losses were decided by a score. (a combined 14 points across all losses)enigmaax wrote:

Not sure what OSU has to do with it, but:dlazz wrote:

One, OSU plays more than just Purdue every season including this one.
Two, OSU beat Iowa and Penn State (both in or around the top ten in every poll), which trumps Boise's one big win this year.
Three, OSU won a BCS conference with an automatic bid, which puts them in the BCS conversation.
With Boise, every case that is ever made for them is that they proved themselves with the Fiesta Bowl win and then by beating Oregon this year. Forget that the rest of their conference is 13 games under .500 this season and that their entire conference is 2-15(ish) against the type of competition Cincy/Bama/Florida/Texas/etc faces just about every week, and that they are 6-17 against that type of competition since they've been in the FBS. Boise gets a lot of mileage out of two wins and if not for TCU, they'd once again be fooling everyone. -

By your own argument, then, OSU's losses were by a TD or less each. And Purdue lost five games by less than a TD. So none of those results mean anything?dlazz wrote:

cbus4lifeNone are overrated, all are very good teams.
-
newarkcatholicfanI do not believe any of these fine teams are over rated.
-
3reppomBoise State. They have one true quality win and have struggled mightily with Tulsa, Louisiana Tech and were pushed far too hard by Utah State and Nevada
-
Cleveland BuckI don't think Boise State is a top 15 team. The other two are about where they should be. Cincinnati may be a tiny bit overranked.
-
112in84UC has a really bad defense
-
dwccrewUC is rated were they should be, but they are the most overhyped and have taken advantage of a very weak schedule (the weakest out of the top 19 teams in the polls).
-
0311sdpUC is way over rated, their defense is a joke, I think Pitt will beat them this week and I don't think much of Pitt. TCU is the best, most complete team of the 3 as Boise like Cinci plays very questionable defense. None of the 3 could survive in the big conferences (SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10, even ACC because they have no depth, but for 1 game they could pull a major upset of anyone including Florida, Texas, and Alabama. But if they played that kind of competition week in and week out they would get worn down, suffer injuries and their lack of depth would result in a lot of losses.
-
dlazzI guess overhyped would have been a better title for the thread. I wasn't firing on all cylinders this morning when I made it. I still think Boise is a good team, though.

Quality teams. I constitute a "quality" team one that is ranked NOW, and not THEN.BCSbunk wrote: They have not played anyone. What exactly does that mean? -

TCU has 2 ranked teams how many does Texas have?dlazz wrote:

Texas, Bama and Florida all haven't played anybody.BCSbunk wrote: TCU has 2 ranked teams how many does Texas have?
However, I don't recall ever putting them in the title of the thread... -
enigmaaxI'm sure I've used the phrase "haven't beaten anyone" before, but it does get kind of silly.
Who has beaten anyone? The "anyone" list must include like four teams and unless they play each other, they're all the same - beating nobody. Since that means they are no good, then what does that then make the nobodies.
dlazz - What is a quality win by your definition? -

Well I guess TCU is out then. I needed to clarify what you mean when you say they have not played anyone. Well clearly TCU has.dlazz wrote:

I would say none are over rated then by your own standards and definitions. Unless of course you are going to add more standards?
