I guess Rich Rodriguez's Extra Practice time wasn't so bad huh?

  In light of the allegations brought about the OSU players exchanging autographs for gifts and selling property (gold pants, rings...), the players in Iowa City failing drug tests, the early agent communications, and the Can Newton fiasco...
  
  It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal anymore that Rich Rodriguez and Michigan got in trouble for breaking the rules on practice time.

  Yeah, it seems interesting the very different approaches the NCAA has taken to this various issues. Failing a drug test is a serious issue because you aren't just breaking a rule, you're breaking the law. Cam Newton's father tried to extort a very large sum of money from a university in exchange for his son's commitment to play there, which could be criminal. Taking extra required time at practice could give a team a competitive advantage. Selling your own personal property though? Well, there's nothing illegal about that. And apparently the stuff they sold technically is the property of the university until they leave school (which is why it was against the rules for them to sell it). At least that's the way it sounded when Gene Smith explained everything yesterday.

  As QCB pointed out yesterday, there isn't anything illegal about it. The NCAA, or OSU, can't force them to reverse the transaction. But if a student-athlete engages in that activity they risk their eligibility.

  I didn't really mean illegal. I meant illegal in the eyes of the NCAA (against the rules). It was a poor word choice on my part. I changed it.

  Well smart guy, please explain? Not one OSU fan is condoning what these guys did. Many want them gone, or hope they bolt to the NFL. But don't make this out to be something bigger then it is as its not. They didn't get any kind of advantage on the field for selling these items.

  This BS doesn't reflect on Tress in anyway...this is the solitary work of six selfish, self-entiltled assholes who should never be allowed to set foot on another athletic field involving OSU sports (take our chances in the Sugar Bowl with players who abide by the rules).

  How does this not reflect Tress in any way? Players do great things on the field and win games for him and the university, the coach gets some of the credit. Players do stupid shit off the field...the coach and university get some of the heat. Cant have the good without the bad

  Could not disagree more with this statement. One has to do with the game of football, the other is completely separate from the field and/or game of football. Jim Tressel is paid to be the head coach of the football team at The Ohio State University....not the babysitter.

  What the players did gives OSU no advantage on the field. Aside from a stupid rule,the stuff they sold was their own.
  
  What Richrod did was an attempt to get a competitive advantage and he's a coach, not an 18-22 year old kid.

  I wasnt comparing this situation to Rich Rods. Im saying when kids in your program do stupid shit, like it or not, it makes the coach, and school look bad. Bc above it was said this doesnt reflect Tressel or OSU...or something along those lines
