Why I can't stand USC and Pete Carroll

  • Scarlet_Buckeye
First you are going to cry about Stanford going for 2 and running up the score...

    and then this...

Scarlet, I was pissed also until I heard that Rick N. called a timeout with under a minute to go. Pete was trying to run the clock out, Rick prolonged the game, and then USC calmly ran a PA TD pass that should have been defended anyways.

Did you really call it crying about Stanford. Carroll's quote was, "They can do whatever they want."

Regardless, USC was up by 14 points - not exactly a blowout. With UCLA's remaining TOs, they had time to get the ball back, score, onside kick, and then who knows. Seems pretty clear they hadn't given up on that as far-fetched as it may seem.

That's all a recruit needs to see to realize why not to go to Southern Cal. They are the contemporary version of Miami.

With the classes Tressel has brought in, I think cc's above statement isn't totally correct.

He has no class, what an idiot.

UCLA called a timeout-this means they were still playing and still trying to win. There is nothing wrong with what they did.

the kids you're talking about want to go somewhere that has no discipline--you can call it whatever you want, but it's still the case....and,who cares what Neuheisel did-Petey's supposed to be a grown up,isn't he?? what a bunch of babies!!!

    Nothing wrong at all.

Ehhh no discipline, place with swagger, whatever. Ohio State gets the kids like Ray Small, who call USC classless, then proceed to go out on the field and get dominated by them 35-3.

Wouldn't babies be the people crying about them running the score up? We are defending him I don't see how that is being a baby.

trep14--try to stay current, okay skirt?? I believe that game was played last season

I believe that Ray Small is still on this years OSU team...and its not like OSU had that much more success against USC this year...at home...vs a freshman qb in his second start...
  • vball10set
I would say that they had much more success---three new soph starters on the line, lost on a last minute drive...

I blame Neuheisel as much as carroll. I think carroll is a fuckhead for a lot of reasons, but UCLA deserved this IMO.

I'm trying to say that if Rick N. thinks the game is close enough that he needs to call timeouts, why wouldn't Carroll think the game is close enough to try and put it out of reach?

People wouldn't be complaining if OSU was able to do this in some games. Because its USC, its a big deal though. And this coming from an OSU fan that wishes Tressell would show his nuts sometimes when it comes to play calling. Neuheisel called a timeout when the game was practically determined already. As a previous post read, that meant He thought the outcome of the game was yet to be decided. If thats the case, then Pete decided he would call a play to make sure the outcome of the game couldn't be changed.

As someone who thinks Petey McCheaty is as smarmy as they come, put the blame for all this on yet another smarmy coach...Mr. Neuheisel. If he accepts the fact the game is over and doesn't call the time out, everything ends in a classier manner.

He has nobody to blame but himself for what happened.

Ahh the moral victory comments. haha

    -------------
Both Neuheisel and Carroll are equally to blame. First, Carroll was trying to run the clock out and it was obvious that UCLA was going to lose. Neuheisel starts calling timeouts (1st bad decision) and then Carroll (made the 2nd bad decision) by deciding to throw it deep. Technically I have no problem with what either did, I just think that USC should be wary of the whole 'what goes around, comes around' thing. I had more of a problem with Carroll acting like complete jackass on the sideline after they threw the TD.

At the end of the day UCLA has to stop USC (heck USC may have done them a favor, incomplete pass stops the clock, intercepting gives them possession). UCLA didn't respond very well either, instead of trying to score they acted like a bunch of thugs and ran onto the field.

USC and Carroll on the other hand have absolutely no room to talk when Stanford and others get even either. Just a few weeks ago after Stanford was running it up Carroll confronted Harbaugh at mid-field and yelled "what's your problem!" Funny how quickly Carroll forgets...

Yea I hate Petey too but just how much more of a bitch could be Neuheisel be calling the timeout?
  • Scarlet_Buckeye
I admit, I was unaware of the timeouts and that kinda changes the situation, but I still think two wrongs don't make a right.

But what is wrong with actually playing the game? It is a 60 minute game. If you feel like you've lost, quit. It's that simple. Otherwise, play what you signed up for.

I think it was hilarious. Rick shouldn't have called a timeout and just accepted his team was going to lose.

Pete was content with running out the clock, but Rick dug his own grave with that move.

Ahhh yes, the "great" moral victory...keeping it close against a three loss USC team starting a true freshman at quarterback...yes, what great success.

I wish everyone wouldn't get all butthurt over what Pete Carroll did and would worry more about OSU. Seriously, saying stupid comments like "Only classless kids go to USC! Here at OSU we only get the good kids who keep their noses clean because Tressel is such a good person!" is absolutely ridiculous. I do agree that Tressel is definitely a classier guy than Carroll, but that still hasn't led to OSU being a poster child of team discipline for the NCAA. What happened to that freshman tailback who helped carry OSU to the national championship in 2002?

I just wish people weren't so jealous of the USCs and Floridas and such around here.
