Kent State

Even including standing room, Akron's new stadium only holds about 30,000. That's not close to being Big 10 quality. Even if they expand it to something like 44,000, it would still be too small for the B10. I think Cincinnati would stand a greater chance of getting into the Big 10 than Akron.

I'm not trying to knock Akron when I say these things. I taught there for a while as an adjunct instructor, and it was a very rewarding experience.

Martin is the lowest paid coach in the MAC - and deservedly so.
The stuff about guaranteeing a bowl game made him, in the end, look foolish.
After their last loss, he, predictably, blamed it on injuries.

I am all for giving a coach more than a few seasons to get things going. Martin has had more than enough time.

With the facilities and the recruiting area, KSU should be a good job for an up and coming coordinator. What they should really do is ante up 300K or so and get Kehres, but I'd settle for Luke Fickell or Hazell from OSU.

Hazell would be a very nice hire IMO. He could also bring along Paul Haynes the safties coach at OSU(KSU alum). It would be nice to bring a guy in that knows something about big time college football.

LOL, if you think Kehres would leave Mount for Kent State you need meds, or you need to pass me whatever you're smoking.

Martin had a bit of a point in citing injuries--injuries aren't an excuse. I don't know why everyone says that, they're a reason you can lose games. Sure you can overcome them, but that relies on a player stepping up when he gets his chance (Tiki Barber style)--that's on the player, not the coach. There is a reason that guys are on the bench and if you don't have your best team against someone else's best team then you could be in for a long day. No matter how you want to twist it, Jarvis being injured for half the season DEFINITELY cost them games. If you think they had someone to come off the bench and replace him...then again, pass me what you're smokin. He was one of the best players in the MAC.

So, is Martin out or does anybody know?
  • SQ_Crazies
I'm not sure. But no doubt he should be, regardless of who they can or can't bring in there is no reason to continue with him. IMO he should step down--you don't make guarantees like he did and keep your job. He should be held accountable, that's part of the job.

I may need meds - that's beside the point - but Kehres to KSU almost happened once before

I can promise you that Larry Kehres will never coach at Kent State.

300K would be a paycut for Kehres. There's no way he leaves Alliance.

He could leave Alliance--though the chances aren't very high but he won't leave for KSU. I know that much for sure.

Kehres is a great coach, the difference between d3 and d1 job responsibilities are too great though for this to translate well, imo. I'd love to see Mangino get an offer! He did an incredible job with rebuilding Kansas and he has strong ties to the region.

Mangino is damaged goods. I wouldn't want him.

True, but that's the only way I think Kent could get a big name, successful coach. I also think he got a raw deal at Kansas, most coaches do that sort of thing.

Just so we don't have to pay him by the pound!
