Indiana at (16) Kentucky
-
reclegend22The Hoosiers hanging tough in Rupp Arena thus far. Kentucky leads it, 32 to 31 at intermission.
Has Az been posting lately? Just a side note; haven't seen him in awhile. -
Laley23Indiana is a much improved, and more tough (both mentally and physically) team. But they will lose this game by double digits. They cant hang on the boards at all versus Kentucky, and eventually those jumpers will go down
Only shot is if Oladipo and Rivers can play defense as effective in half 2 as they just did in half 1. I doubt it, 40 minutes is a long time. They also could use Jordy too look for his shot and Creek to make a damn bucket.
But I was impressed with that first half. IU will have its share of "up" moments this season. -
reclegend22Well, Indiana now only needs to hang on and play tough for another 15 minutes. The Hoosier State leads this one by one, 39 to 38. Impressive showing in a very tough environment, no matter what happens.
-
reclegend2261-57, Kentucky, with 6:52 left. Hoosiers have been struggling to find good shots from the field the last several possessions.
They need to sub in Ryan Tapek. -
reclegend22Kentucky fans chanting "Austin's better" at Jeremiah Rivers is humorous.
Most Duke fans think so, too -
Azubuike24Jeremiah sucks though. Austin is really good, but lets face it, Jeremiah is horrible.
-
CinciX12The wheels pretty much fell off for IU there at the end. Will be disappointing for them that looking at the final score.
-
Azubuike24Bigger news today than even this game.
5-star, 2012 recruit DeAndre Daniels, who was committed to Texas, re-classified to 2011, and is eligible the 2nd semester of this year if he wants to be. He is in Lexington this weekend, and is eligible next week.
Nothing like adding a 5-star forward and having him be able to play this quick. Normally, I'd be against it, but the guy is a stud player, and could contribute right away. This UK team could use the depth too. -

Given the prior background of your coach, this seems like a nice epilogue to a fantastic NCAA violation they will add to the list against him. -
Azubuike24I'm not sure what you are talking about it being a violation...explain?
Daniels de-committed and re-classified months ago. He's been available and expected to join a school during the 2nd semester. He's just gone about it quietly since opening his recruitment back up.
He's visited Kansas, Oregon, Kentucky, Texas and has offers from about a dozen schools (Baylor, UCLA, Florida, etc...). -

Getting back in the swing of things. Has been a pretty hectic time since this spring. Can't wait to be around here all winter/spring though. -

He is what he is, a decent ball handler whose primary role is to direct the Hoosier offense and find their scorers. It's actually kind of strange come to think of it; I don't believe I've ever seen him attempt a jump shot. If he did tonight, I missed it. I was more going for the idea of Kentucky fans cheering -- albeit indirectly -- for DukeAzubuike wrote:Jeremiah sucks though. Austin is really good, but lets face it, Jeremiah is horrible.
But I'm listening to Cameron Newton thank his mom's womb in front of the country, so I'm going to have to go now. -
Cleveland BuckThe Hoosiers fought hard, they just ran out of gas and started taking bad shots at the end and couldn't hold up defensively. They will be a tough out in Big Ten play.

I actually thought that was retarded.
A. everyone knows it, cause Jeremiah is terrible
B. IU fans did this chant with no precident to UK a few years ago talking about Jordan v Joe (Crawford)
C. Joe Crawford was the #3 recruit in the nation and Jordan was like #143, so the chant actually meant something
D. Jordan dominated that game as a frosh to led the Hoosiers with 20+ in a route of UK without Eric Gordon
E. Im basically saying they stole the chant form a school who directed it correctly at them... and the kid who is "better" doesnt even go to their school. -
Laley23Anyway, this game played out about how I expected it too. Shocked the Hoosiers kept it that close for that long, but eventually they were gonna feel the heat and take some bad shots. Kentucky also was able to get to the line with the whistle happy refs (44 times) and IU settled for too many outside jumpers when they got UK into the bonus and thus only got to the line a few times (16).
That disparity, even though UK missed a ton, was the difference. I was very impressed with how well UK handled the ball. I think single digit turnovers... -
Azubuike24I don't care for IU, but I never hated them like many UK fans. I would really love to have this game be meaningful again though.
IU has beaten UK twice since 1999, and honestly, they were both horrible games and against two crappy UK teams (especially 2007, quite possibly UK's worst team in a LONG time).
In 2008 and 2009, IU was awful, and there was really no benefit in playing the game. This year, there were some signs of it coming back. Next year it should be awesome though as IU will finally have a team capable and with some experience, and UK should probably be the #1 team in the nation going into Bloomington. -
Curly JIt doesn't have the same feel as it had in the past when Bobby Knight was coaching. He had a true disdain for UK. I still enjoy the rivalry as living in SW Ohio there are quite a few Indiana fans to banter with.
I wouldn't screw with tradition. -

Next year should be awesome. I cant wait, I think Im going to try to get tickets and drive down to Bloomington for it. But you are right. Really the last 3 years have been a joke. UK was bad in 2007 when IU was good (although we were without EJ and I THINK Armon Bassett, but still better than UK) and in 08 and 09 IU was awful. IU is better, but still not an NCAA team...so you have 4 years where this game hasnt meant shit. It will be nice when it returns to a great game every year. -

This game isnt going anywhere. It just hasnt mattered the last 4 years.
Bob Knight is great for how open his hatred for his rivals are. Some of the stuff he said (on record no less) about Purdue will just have people rolling. He hated Purdue more than anything. He hated UK as well, but his Purdue hate is something else! -
Curly JI have to admit I like that they are playing on their home court now. That was something Bobby refused to do was play at Rupp. I was at this game with my Father back in 1992, I believe, in Indy. Patino was outcoached by Knight.
It's great that there are two programs, rich in history, not too far away from each other. -

I like the home court thing as well, but I actually would like to see it go to a 4 game alternate. Assembly, Rupp, Lucas Oil, Freedom. I only say this becuse Indy fans HATE that IU doesnt play a game in Indy anymore. They used to play at least 1 a year and sometimes 2. Now Indy is luck to get 1. They are bringing a GREAT "tourney" to Lucas Oil next year with IU, ND, Purdue, and Butler. But even that isnt good for Indy fans cause they will only get a certain amount of tickets. I know Knight didnt want to play in Rupp, but he also knew how to appease the whole state so they could see their team. -

Laley, I agree with you that the chant was both unoriginal (Bowling Green students used to do this cheer when Ohio Bobcat Steve Esterkamp, whose brother Dave played for BG, came to town) and overtly obvious (being that Austin is a more advanced Steph Curry -- at comparable ages -- and Jeremiah, Derek Raivio without the shooting or dribbling). Well, that's probably too harsh; Jeremiah can bounce a ball with wherewithal.Laley23 wrote:I actually thought that was retarded.

I simply liked the chant because Kentucky fans were incidentally cheering their loudest cheer of the afternoon for Duke inside Rupp. -
GOONx19^ The chant was nowhere near the loudest of the game. The only people doing the Rivers chant were those in the student section under the UK basket.

cats gone wild
If I remember correctly, didnt Indiana give UK a tough game until the end of the game last year? I think Creek tore them up.Azubuike24;597028 wrote:

Azubuike24Kentucky broke the game open in the 2nd half and was up 20+. It was close for the first half, or a little less.
