If Ohio State Had Gone Undefeated . . .

dwccrewIt'd be Auburn vs. Ohio State had Ohio State gone unbeaten. Oregon wouldn't have jumped the Bucks.

You make a good point about the fact that Ohio State had gotten to #1. If they were just at #2 I could see them getting jumped by both teams and falling to #3. But I can't see them getting jumped by two teams. Also I think that most people would actually consider them the best team had they cone undefeated. They have the best offense they've ever had under Tressel (statistically) and their offense is where it's always been under Tressel (especially under Heacock). The only team in the country ranked higher in both offense AND defense is Boise State. -

This. To be fair though wisky screwed themselves by losing to sparty. -
Tiger2003If OSU went undefeated they would be in the National Title game vs who I don't know but my guess would be Auburn. I believe they would have jumped Oregon based on there stretch run just like they jumped from 2 to 1. Yes Oregon was a preseason rank 11 and Auburn was unranked but I still think the Tigers final push would have been enough to get Auburn to the Title game.
Wisconsin would be playing Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

You do realize that the BCS and NCAA are essentially the same people right? Or at least, they get their power from the same people. The BCS exists and runs the way that it does because all D-1 schools have agreed to participate. Those same schools have also agreed to abide by NCAA rules. The NCAA governing body could come out and say that they are organizing a playoff, but all major D-1 schools would laugh and continue having the bowls and BCS, or simply leave the NCAA and form their own governing body. The NCAA can only form a playoff if a majority of the member institutions (and by majority I mean the major conferences) agreed to it.
I do agree though that the only way a playoff ever happens is if everyone currently involved (member schools, conferences, non-AQ conferences, bowls, advertisers, TV networks, etc) ends up making more money through a playoff than through the bowls, and we're so far away from that happening.
Actually, the BCS is just the 65 'power' schools. The other 55 just go along with it because they have no choice. The BCS makes up a majority in any D-I football matter. The 55 don't 'choose' to go along with it. They're basically blackmailed into it. Without their begrudging consent, they wouldn't get the table scraps they do now. -
stlouiedipalmaLet's not forget that, just before the Wisconsin game (when the Buckeyes were #1 in the polls), the projected BCS standings had them figured at #4 or #5. The computer rankings are what caused that and, even with a win over Wisconsin, there wouldn't be much reason for them to change all that much. The computers never were kind to the Buckeyes. My guess is that OSU would have been ranked 3rd and out of the title mix.

I look at Ohio State. CLEARLY (IMO of course) Hankins is our 3rd best defensive lineman (behind Heyward and Simon) but he won't play over Larimore because Larimore is a senior. Doesn't make any sense, because last time I checked, a key to stopping the run (cough cough Wisconsin) could be a 335 lb skilled nose tackle. Just airing sour grapes.
This sounds personal to me. Without being at practice every day, I think it would be hard to decide who deserves to see the bulk of PT. -

You're delusional [if you honestly believe had OSU gone undefeated that the computers would not have had them in the top 3 or 4; and with the main components coming from the human poll, where OSU surely would have been ranked #1 or #2, you damn well would have seen OSU as the #1 (or #2) BCS team. Book it.] -
FidmeisterRemember this: The computers HATED the Big 11 this season.
