Carolina @ Illinois

ironman02So they finally make a few decent plays in a row and Roy subs in a different five. Gimme a break.
Put Marshall, Bullock, Barnes, Henson, and Zeller on the damn floor! -
wildcats20Refs have missed a couple calls here in the last 45 seconds or so...
That pass that went through the big's hands from Illinois that they called off Barnes never came close to touching Barnes. That led to a bucket. And now Strickland misses a layup while getting hit on the arm.
Take away the bucket from Illinois and give Carolina 2 at the line and it would have been a 7 point game with 1 minute left. -
ironman02Well, at least they didn't roll over and quit. Had it down to single digits after trailing by 16 late in the 2nd half.
Carolina is in for a long season unless there are some MAJOR improvements over the next couple weeks, both invdividually and as a team. This team is pitiful in half court sets, and honestly, they're not doing much in transition either. They still get lazy on defense and have too many mental lapses that lead to easy baskets for the other team. That's just the tip of the iceberg though. As I said, Kentucky is next, and I don't expect that to be pretty. Terrence Jones, Brandon Knight, and company are going to embarrass Carolina in the Dean Dome in front of the Heels' top priority for the Class of 2012. -
PrescottThis team looks a lot like last years team and that is a very bad thing. The PG play is poor and the perimeter shooting is horrid. I think some changes need to take place, especially at the PG position, for this team to have a chance to be good.

Agree. And Barnes isn't quite as good as most have made him out to be. A great talent, no question..but has a ways to go. No way, no how a 1st team AA, not even 3rd team if they give that out. He is Not near any of the more recent top ranked frosh in past years. UNC could have another tough year. -
AutomatikUNC with 3 losses before December.

Azubuike24Harrison Barnes isn't even the best Freshman in his conference. He may not be one of the top 5 in the country. Terrence Jones, Jared Sullinger, Kyrie Irving and Tobias Harris are all better from the guys I've seen in multiple games already.
Comparing him with the greatest Freshman in history, let alone ranking him AHEAD of every Freshman ever is a joke. He is NOT in the same class as the amazing talents we have seen in the past 5 years. -
ironman02Man, everyone sure does love to rip on Barnes. It's not the kid's fault that the moronic media put him on the pre-season All-America team. He has definitely struggled early on, but I'm fairly confident that he'll end up being an outstanding player. It's simply ridiculous to put him on that team without ever playing a college basketball game.

But it is his fault that he came onto campus introducing himself as "The Black Falcon." Clearly, he thought he was something really special, something over which to be fawned, and the nonessential theatrics of his recruitment announcement are an indication of this. Self-promotion on that level frequently leads to failure. Not that Barnes is a failure by any means -- he has a ton of time to become a special player -- but I'm content that he is not on my team. He might have been a savior for Iowa, but, from what we have come to know, his services at Duke are not required.ironman02 wrote:Man, everyone sure does love to rip on Barnes. ironman02I haven't heard any of this "Black Falcon" business, but whatever. He never claimed to be an All-American from the beginning. That's on the media.
I really couldn't care less though. He has shown flashes of being the player everyone expected him to be. In time, he'll be more consisent, and when that happens, he'll be a great basketball player. -
reclegend22For the record, the stance you are taking here, iron, is the exact stance I would be taking if this player were a member of the Duke team.
But this is a matter of rivalry Nothing personal. I should say nothing too personal. (I really hate Barnes' narrow head, too.)
