Why does Notre Dame have trouble winning?

  • pooter
Why do they??? They consider themselves thee prestige program... Lou Holtz was predicting a National Title game in the preseason... Every new coach since Holtz is the savior.... but turn out to be the lamb.... What is the problem????

Because they aren't very good? That'd be the easiest and most accurate answer.

Another ND thread huh? Just what we needed. Thanks.

Because year after year they are highly overrated.

When you have 6 win talent with coaching and players, you shouldn't be ranked in the preseason polls even if its at #25.

The biggest problem is talent, and before I get the hordes of ND fans allow me to explain. If you go to rivals right now check all the top O-line man at my last check about 4-5 days ago not a single top star o-line was signed by Notre Dame.

I do not suggest that Notre Dame is talentless. They have some great skill players Clausen Floyd and Tate but thier line play is not at a top level at all. In the Stanford game the de's for Stanford looked like all-americans getting past the very slow O-lineman of Notre Dame.

The game of football is won on the lines of scrimmage, cliche I know, but true. They do not have the talent on the lines to create the synergy needed to be one of the top teams. Weis was able to recruit some high profile skill players but you need lineman too.

If the new coach has great success with winning I will conceed that it is not Notre Dames standards. At this point I do not believe a new coach will do much for them.

They can't seem to score more points than their opponent?

Does the Browns having Joe Thomas make their line even average?
  • Mr Pat
Never said made them average. You said they haven't signed one single top star o-line recruit, which was wrong.

You should reread what I said. I said I went 4-5 days ago and not one top star recruit. Not that they have never gotten one. Line play is their weakness. Their line is below average.

Have you seen the defenses they've been putting on the field?

When Tom Zbikowski is one of the best defensive players you've had in the last 10 years, you know you've been struggling.

They've had a few great players here and there like Justin Tuck, Trevor Laws, Victor Abiamiri, Chinedum Ndukwe, Gerome Sapp, Anthony Weaver, and Rocky Boiman...

But that's all since 2000. Most of those guys were 2nd rounders at best, and a couple of them just developed well as 6th and 7th round draft picks.

A lot of it is coaching.

Explains why the US education system is getting worse and worse every year. Also supports the old saying, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

So the reason they struggled this year is because this class doesn't have one top star recruit? His O-Line recruits were almost all highly rated.

I agree though that line play is their weakness but I attribute that to coaching again.
