Now until New Year's Eve for Ohio State

POINT BEING...is what OSU is doing, is not out of the norm. If it were, then that would be different. It is what it is, may as well accept it, its not going to change. Matta has his reasons. And it won't affect jackshit as far as the Big Ten or the NCAA are concerned. If it did, I am sure Matta would change things. Sorry, but I tired of hearing the whiners every year. You worry about things in your control. Things not in your control, discuss it, and move on.

This is a discussion, is it not?

Again, reiterating my previous post, I understand it. It is about generating revenue for the athletic department. OSU's men's basketball team has a responsibility to maximize profits to fund the other varsity sports. And I think that an early OOC schedule is meant to prepare you for the conference. And then conference play prepares you for the tournament.

With OSU's 13 OOC games before conference play starts, they have one challenging game that they freely scheduled and then another that is part of the ACC-Big 10 schedule. So, out of 12 games, they have determined it's only worth scheduling one challenging opponent? That is just not okay. Would fans be happier with 2? It's more than 1. 3 challenges? I think that would be about right.

Let's look at the top 10 and their "challenges" in preseason OOC play:
Duke: Marquette, Oregon, UAB and Butler
    Michigan State: Syracuse and Texas
Kansas State: Virginia Tech, Gonzaga, UNLV, Florida
    Pittsburgh: Maryland, Texas, Tennessee
    Villanova: UCLA, Temple
Kansas: Arizona, UCLA, Memphis, USC and Cal
    UNC: Illinois, Kentucky, Texas
Florida: Ohio State, Kansas State and Xavier
Syracuse: Northern Iowa, Michigan, Cornell, NC State and Michigan State

So, putting it in perspective, OSU isn't doing what everyone else is.

    Waaahhhh! Wah Wahhhh!

A damn pointless one. AGAIN, what the hell difference does it make when your season ends in TWO tournaments?

    uhhh...none.

Good contribution. No one is crying, I just think it could be better. The Big 10 will be tough enough and actually Ohio State is setting themselves up to stay atop the rankings all year (not that it matters).

I'm sure Matta likes this schedule because he can play a lot of guys, keep people happy and work on things. But there is nothing wrong with fans wishing something different.

This is a forum after all, is it not?

I just see it as mental masturbation. You're not going to change anything about it and what is more it doesn't matter at all. Might as well discuss what color shoe laces they're wearing too while we're at it.

Yes it is. So go ahead and cry away, again, and again, and again, and again..... Its OLD and its NOT going to change "that" much. Similar to your Diebler whining. As I told you, ..its not going to change, and it hasn't. At some point, people need to accept things, and move on. But since this is a "forum after all", go and and continue your bitch and whine session. ;)

Then what is the point of this whole thing? Why discuss anything? Because nothing we talk about has any affect on change. Dumbest thing ever. It's called an opinion. Message forums are around for people to express opinions. Why would any be talking about Ohio State vs. Iowa if it's not going to change anything?

Does anything posted on this board really matter or change anything?

As a fan, I would definitely like it if they scheduled a few tougher games. I don't think an early loss to a good team would really hurt either so I'm not sure why they wouldn't do it.

How 'bout starting a thread about the schedule then. Then anyone who wishes to discuss it can, just don't be surprised when people bash the crap out of you for starting a useless thread. Seems simple enough to me.

And I bring up a discussion topic on the others in the top 10 and their OOC schedule, after you said, "it's the norm", when it reality it's not. And you respond with this. I wasn't whining at all. It's a discussion.

Are you trying to be ironic?

What do you think this thread is about? And guess what, it's on page 2.

What do you want to see from the Buckeyes in this stretch after the win at Florida?
I guess you think this means the schedule blows, let's whine about it.

Last year, OSU played at California(Lost in 2nd round NCAA), at Butler(Lost in FF NCAA), and at West Virginia(Lost in FF NCAA).

OSU's schedule is pathetic, but I will give Matta a pass.

I really don't know if you are trying to act dumb, or are just really that dumb. And I've never had a problem with your posts, so I really am not trying to offend you.

But the point of this topic was to discuss the OOC schedule. Some like it, some don't. It's a matter of opinion and I don't see why someone can't be critical of it without being considered a whiner.

But that's exactly what this thread is about, like it or not. So, no, there is no need to start another thread to discuss the exact same thing.

Just never understand why a fan can't be critical without it being taken the wrong way. I'm as big of an OSU basketball fan as anyone, but yes, I will be critical. And yes, I will give praise where praise is due. I will be critical of the schedule and I will praise this team when they play good basketball.

Yea, last year's schedule proved to be a very good one. Plus, Michigan State was in the final 4. OSU beat Michigan State, blew the game against WVU (up 12 at half) and lost to Butler without Turner. OSU was as good as any team in college basketball last year, and are only better this year.

Please explain to me what the discussion on this thread has been about then. You are not that dumb, are you?

It's supposed to be about what we expect the team to do in this stretch, i.e. improvements of players, rotations, playing time etc...but your very first post is about how weak the schedule is. It's weak, agreed. So let's talk about what we expect from the team, not about how poorly the schedule was set up prior to the season.

No, I'm not that dumb. Lol

I just am very excited to see how the team gels going forward with little chance of set backs.

You learn in game situations a lot more than practice even if the competition is somewhat weak.

Indeed. Look at the box score from Florida. The four vets, Sullinger and Craft played virtually the entire game with Thomas getting eight minutes and three other freshmen getting one minute at the end of the game. You play a more stacked OOC schedule and, odds are, you wind up with a six-man rotation with Thomas contributing from time-to-time. With all those easy games, it's an opportunity to really integrate Thomas into the rotation and get guys like Sibert and Weatherspoon at least to the level where they can contribute in short bursts.

I'd rather watch an entertaining, exciting game over a 40-point massacre, but with so many young players, having games like NC A&T, where nine guys played 10+ minutes and no one was over 30, is great for the development of those bench players. And at least means that, as fans, we won't be spending half the year expecting the bottom to drop out due to fatigue at some point because 3-4 guys are averaging 38 minutes a game.

I'm with you. I don't like the weak schedule, mostly because I don't want to watch OSU beat on cupcakes for the next 5 weeks, but I'm not gonna bitch and moan about it.

It is the freaking NORM. Except for MSU and a couple others...those schedules you posted are NOT that impressive and in perspective, really no better. Your going to use teams like UAB, to prove a point? Just because they have a big name next them doesn't equate that to a great schedule. More more good team? Big friggen deal.
  • Leonardo
I really did make this thread to discuss the actual Buckeyes and not how "strong" or "weak their schedule is.

This is a stretch where Matta can work with the freshmen even more and find out what lineup he really wants to use heading into Big Ten play (if it changes at all).

CinciX12;565145 wrote:This doesn't really make much sense to me. Why wouldn't you want to be more prepared at the end of the season? Harder schedules facilitate that. Especially more so in a sport like basketball where you are not crucified (see BCS) when you lose a game. On the contrary actually, you are rewarded for SOS heavily. So at the end of the season when say a UK and OSU are competing for a #1 seed, it would clearly be better to have a good SOS, which OSU will not have.
A Big Ten schedule will prepare ALL Big Ten schools for the Tournament. The Big Ten is the toughest league in the county this year. Games played in February and March are MUCH MUCH more significant than games played in November in preparing teams for the Tournament.

There is little if any difference between a #1 and #2 seed.
