College GameDay at Wrigley Field 11/20

  College GameDay will be at Wrigley field this Saturday for the Illinois/Northwestern game. It is the first college football game played in the stadium since 1938. Obviously there aren't any really huge games this weekend and this was clearly chosen for the location and not because of the game being played there.
  
  Herbie did mention during the OSU game yesterday that Iowa would have been the likely location for the OSU/Iowa game had Iowa not lost yesterday.

  Damn, I wasn't that far off when I jokingly suggested they would be at Yankee Stadium for Notre Dame/Army.

  it's really too bad that Persa is injured...not only is he missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it sure would have made for a more compelling game--but what a venue!!!

  Yes they are. They will be hosting the "Pinstripe Bowl" in December.
  
  I think the field just looks narrow based on how the picture was taken. But one can't deny that it is a super tight fit to get that field in there. LOL.

  I know what the Yankees are trying to do, and make it more like Old Yankee Stadium hosting so many marquee events, but the boxing matches earlier this year were a colossal fail and I think that this game will be too. It really does look like things fit into Wrigley Field so much better than they do at NYS

  How do you define fail? According to ticket prices, demand is extremely high for tickets. I was thinking about making the trip out to NYC for a cheap ticket, but they're sorta ridiculous.
  
  Games in historic settings like these are pretty neat to see in my opinion.

  I think that the field in Wrigley looks like it fits better because the overall field is bigger and because of the perspective of the picture in Yankee Stadium. However, I bet that the new Yankee Stadium was designed with hosting football games in mind, so I think the field probably fits perfectly. And from a fans perspective it looks like everyone will have a better view in Yankee Stadium than in Wrigley, because everyone will be closer to the field. The seats in left field don't go up very high in Wrigley, and with as far away as they are, you won't be able to see anything out there.

  Yeah, this is a weird weekend. #1 Oregon, #2 Auburn, and #4 TCU all have byes, and #3 Bosise State plays on Friday. So none of the top four teams in the nation will be in action Saturday, and there are two games being played in baseball stadiums. Weird.

  Jeremy Ebert from Northwestern is my friend from high school and now the leading receiver in the Big Ten. Just from watching him play I have started to become a Northwestern fan, and as a student at OSU im glad we dont play them this year. Im sure he is excited to play at Wrigley, and its sweet that gameday is going there. Go 'Cats!

  I just don't think its going to live up the the hype. They said they were expecting a gate of nearly 50K for the boxing match and only about 20 or so actually showed up. I just don't think its going to end up the way they want it to

  Ben Burkett, NW's center, and his family are good friends of ours, therefore I am a Wildcat fan as well--and I share your feelings about not playing them this year too

  I bet more than 20K will show up for Notre Dame/Army. What is the capacity of New Yankee Stadium? 55,000?

  ~52,300 for baseball games, not sure if it changes or not. I would be absolutely shocked it it wasn't sold out.

  Yeah I can't imagine them adding any seats on the field as you wouldn't be able to see anything. 52,000 is not a large crowd as college football games go.

  IMO, it looks like it fits better at Yankee Stadium. Imagine catching a running touchdown in the Northwestern endzone, or in the right side of the Illinois end zone (think right field pole). Both should be pretty cool and I'll definitely catch some of each game.

  The fit is REAL tight in Wrigley... they showed a shot during the Northwestern game this past weekend, there is so little room behind the outfield endzone that the goalpost is just bolted straight onto the outfield wall. It'll make the passing game rough, because it eliminates some plays to the back of the endzone unless you want to knock your receiver unconscious.

  ND/Army game will be a sell out, especially with the smaller seating capacity. There's a ton of ND fans in the New York area and the regular traveling fans will be there trying to get in as well. I'm pretty sure the ND/Navy game was sold out at the Meadowlands and that a much bigger venue.
