    Good decision!

Are they going bowling @ 6-6? I wonder where Snyder, who was a pretty damn good DC at OSU will end up? I never thought he was the head coach type while at OSU.
  • Chesapeake
    No bowling.
  • crusader1980
Long list of goners so far. Who nexxt to Marshall I wonder?
  • darbypitcher22
wonder where he'll end up and who would end up with this job? probably a BCS conference coordinator.... any whispers of potential candidates?

Why couldn't he get it going down there?

I would say there will be a long line to get this job. It's not everyday you can go to a university in Huntington W.Va. and have Virginia Tech, WVU and Ohio State on your schedule. The new coach will get to open with The Buckeyes in Columbus next year. Welcome to Herd Country Coach! You better beat all these teams or some sports writer in Huntington will be after your head.

    Bring him back as DC!

^ I like our defense the way it is. Fickell> Snyder. He is a better recruiter and just as good of coach. Snyder is not a bad coach though.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ohio State bring Snyder back, although I was never really a fan of his defense. They didn't seem aggressive at all when Snyder was there. Lots of sitting back and waiting (or at least thats what I remember)

I figured the pink slip was coming for him though.
  • OneBuckeye
I agree.. he had a bend and don't break defense and didn't generate as many TOs as I recall.
  • Chesapeake
Bobby Pruett just woke up and put his teeth in to take a phone call.

    More at 11.

Just don't bring him back to Ohio State. Was never a fan of his.
  • Ytowngirlinfla
Wfmj said something about him coaching at YSU.

    Come back to OSU!

Why would anybody want YSU to hire a coach that was just fired from an FBS School in a non BCS Conference? Snyder did not resign, he was fired, but much like Heacock it was done in a manner where Snyder was allowed to announce publicly that he was resigning.

Marshall was 21-37 with Snyder as Head Coach in 5 seasons. Marshall had ZERO winning seasons the past 5 years. How does that make him an attractive candidate for a YSU program that just forced out a HC with an overall record of 60-44, and a record of 6-5 this season? Snyder, like Heacock, is a coach that has proven he is an EXCELLENT assistant coach/coordinator, but is not as good in the position as Head Coach. There is no reason to believe that Snyder would do better than Heacock as HC at YSU, and he may well end up with worse results if he is hired.

Also, Snyder is going to be paid for the remaining 3 seasons of his contract, but my guess is that will not happen if he takes another job. So, unless YSU plans on paying Snyder more than he was paid at Marshall, there is really no reason for him to even be interested in the job at YSU. Especially when he can make more money as a Coordinator for a BCS school than as HC at YSU.

    Snyder out as Marshall coach

" Marshall has fired Mark Snyder after five seasons as head coach, a person close to the situation told ESPN's Joe Schad. In an announcement released later Sunday by the school, Snyder said he agreed to resign in the best interests of the program.

Marshall athletic director Mike Hamrick said Snyder will be paid the remaining three seasons on his contract, the Charleston Daily Mail reported."...

Synder would make more as a Coordinator at most BCS schools than he was paid at Marshall. Marshall will have to pony up with some cash in order to get someone who can win with their schedule. Also in order to get the type of players it would take to win at Marshall, you would have to Uhmmmmm! Call Bobby Pruett..... I really don't think even he can get those kinds of players or he wouldn't have quit in the first place. Just not enough money in Huntington to get the job done. Back to the MAC better yet Southern Conference, that is where the wins are.

I've heard rumors that Cabell County Community College is interested in Butch Jones and he has shown some interest also. Like I said, just a rumor but Jones would be a great hire.

Why would Butch Jones leave on MAC level school for another, especially when the one he is currently at is winning?

I look for Butch Jones to get a BCS job here soon. Perhaps Cincy if Kelly leaves.

Well, Fickell is being mentioned for the Akron job right now. So this may work out best for everyone. Fickell leaves, opens door for Snyder at OSU.
  • darbypitcher22
For the record, Marshall is techinically a CUSA job
  • OneBuckeye
I don't think Fickell Has much to gain from the HC job at Akron. I think he would be better served waiting to see if he could catch a cincinatti job if Kelly leaves or anything in the BCS opens up after all the coaching moves are made. I don't think the Akron head coaching job would lead to him getting a BCS confrence job earlier, which if I were Lousiville, Virginia or Cinci if Kelly goes, I would be after Fickell.

After thinking about it more I really hated Snyder and his defense. It was not agressive and I did not like.

Anyone think the biggest problem is not being in the MAC anymore? Or, has the program really fallen that much.
  • Paladin
CUSA is a step up from the MAC. Marshall was great in I-AA and the MAC ( which is no tougher than the upper I-AA schools). The reach was a "bridge too far".
  • newarkcatholicfan
This is another school I am hoping can turn things around.
  • darbypitcher22
Fickell if he wants to be a head coach should take the Akron job and run with it; nobody is giong to give him a Cincy or something like that without prior head coaching experience; that being said I just don't know if that's a good fit for them
