Notre Dame boosters request resignation of Brian Kelly, Jack Swarbrick

  • karen lotz
Ok, Kelly is in his first year at Notre Dame putting in new systems both offensively and defensively while taking over a team that lost its last 4 games to finish 6-6. He also lost a QB and WR that set a lot of school records to the draft. Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong get time to implement their systems before they are judged by your vast football knowledge, but Brian Kelly, who has won everywhere he has been AS A HEAD COACH, doesn't?

He doesn't have time to do that at ND..you know that and I know that. He has to win NOW

And you think some fucking bums like Charlie Strong or Dan Mullen would have stepped in at won at Notre Dame this year? You still haven't given a reason other than 2 losses why Kelly wasn't the right hire. The program needs fixed and they weren't going to be ready to win like Notre Dame expects this year no matter who you think they should have hired.

That is the thing, I don't think any coach should be given anything less than 3 yrs to get his system in place. You cannot ask a guy to come in and win without "his" players....the boosters are being way too demanding. It is ridiculous no matter what school you are talking about. The only reason for firing a guy in less than 3 years is if he shamed the program off the field.

I agree. Gibby is adamant Kelly was the wrong hire and his reasons so far include the Navy and Tulsa losses as well as the fact that every assistant coach at Florida wasn't interviewed. I'd like him to give some more solid reasons but it seems he can't.

Ummm, Wes, you do know that the boosters in question are requesting for his resignation because of "off the field" reasons (the completely preventable death of a student under his watch), right?

yeah, but I was referring more to recruiting violations. I think these ND boosters are notorious for demanding a guy win right now...and this thing is being used as an excuse to get rid of him.

While I think that Gibby is wrong in his assessment that Kelly was a wrong hire because there were so many other people out there (his list) who should have been contacted and weren't (according to the all knowing Gibby). I honestly don't believe that Kelly is the right hire. I think ND needs to find a defensive minded coach... I'm not sure if Kelly can be that guy.

Eh, I don't think it's necessarily being used as an excuse to get rid of him. I bet they legitimately believe he is in the wrong and needs to be ousted because of his negligence. This is actually a serious matter.

You could be right....I am blinded by my hatred of those boosters.

Trust me, I do not take Rock's dumbass remarks and label it as ND fans' remarks. Rock is synonymous with a gay italian delusional cocksucker, not Notre Dame.

Amazing that you always bring up gays and cocksucking......you trying to come out of the closet? There's nothing wrong with that.......coming out and admitting you're gay.

How did it work out for you?

I have to laugh at some of these comments, it's shows the hatred towards ND on here. The University has assumed full responsibility for what happened. Brian Kelly and Jack Swarbrick will NOT be fired! This was a tragic accident that yes, could have been avoided but to say one person is responsible shows how narrow minded some of you are. The bottom line is Fr. Jenkins has cleared Kelly and Swarbrick, the Sullivan family has been reached out to and has responded in a positive manner. I know the haters will keep firing away at this story but as far as I'm concerned, Fr. Jenkins and ND have come clean and accepted resposibility for what happened but to those who hate, it's not good enough.......what a shame!

Why you asking me? Are you gay?

The entire ND program is a joke, from the top to the bottom. It's no wonder they haven't won a meaningful game since 1970(I usually say haven't won a bowl game since 1970 but I found out they beat a 6-6 WAC team a couple years ago).

Congratulations ND, you'd be average in the WAC.
  • karen lotz
Since you threw out 1970...Notre Dame has 3 National Championships to Ohio State's 1. Using your "logic", OSU would be a WAC bottom feeder.
  • sleeper
1970 is just a substitute from the very long time ND has been mediocre and IRRELEVANT to college football. Some would put it at 20 years, I'd say, until they join a real conference, I'd put it at 1000 years. That's even before college football existed!

Bottom line on this whole tragedy...if it's found that Kelly is responsible, yes he should be fired. But I'm reserving all judgement until everything comes out.

As far as Declan's tweet that has been brought up a few times...from an interview with Declan's former roommate:
Steinberg (on left in photo, with Sullivan) never did follow his friend on Twitter, but he feels that the media in large part has grossly misrepresented those final two ominous tweets from Sullivan. The first one read, "Gusts of wind up to 60 mph. Well today will be fun at work. I guess I've lived long enough :)"

"Most journalists ignored the playfulness of the first one," Steinberg said. "I've seen them use it without the emoticon at the end. Just a day earlier, we were all joking about the tornado watch and how one never came. We were like, 'Screw you, tornado, at least be severe enough to cancel our 11 a.m. class.'

"I know that I wasn't up there on the lift with him," Steinberg said, "but knowing Declan, knowing his sense of humor, there was nothing fearful about those tweets."

Who in their right mind would allow anyone to more than 5 feet off the ground when the weather forecast for the day called for HURRICANE FORCE WINDS. In freaking INDIANA!!! They don't even hold football practices in Florida when there's a weather forecast for "hurricane force winds".

I'm thinking the parents of this kid has cause for a lawsuit for every penny of Notre Dame's endowment fund.
