The NCAA is investigating an SEC school for football..what do you know. Has there been an SEC team NOT under investigation this season? Vanderbilt maybe? haha

    Only in the SEC...

yikes....ready to accept that award, LaMichael??

Word from the South is Cams dads church just got a lot of new renovations just saying.

I find it odd that Cam wanted to go to Mississippi State but his Dad made the decision that Cam is going to go to Auburn... that definitely doesn't bode well for Auburn. Make it seem like they guaranteed money if he could get Cam to go there.

I have a feeling Newton might be innocent or relatively innocent in this, but it was his family or handlers that were pushing the money thing.

    That would be a travesty.

Maurice Clarrett, Troy Smith and Santonio Holmes beg to differ.

Ummmm...the total quoted is something like 180K....that is just a little more than the 500 dollar handshake or the use of a vehicle....

But it is the SEC...where if youre not cheating..youre not trying.

    +1

However, from all of the reports, it seems like it wasn't really Cam doing any of this but rather his family/handlers. If so, I actually would kinda feel bad for him, as he wasn't the one orchestrating it.

So, he was going to go to Mississippi State, after he asked them for $200k? What does that say about them?

Is he getting paid? I would be surprised if he's not.

Dynasty, I think you have it a bit mixed up.

I think Mississippi State is in the clear here. Cam wanted to go to Mississippi state and that's where most believed he was going to go. But then they were asked for $180k as a reduced price because this is where Cam wanted to go.

So they basically were saying Cam wants to go here, we'll let him go here if you pay up for a little less than others are willing to pay.

Yea, but he was almost committed to Miss State. If, during his recruitment, he was looking for a payout, it's safe to assume that Miss St. would have only been considered if they offered some compensation.

I know he ultimately didn't go there, so they likely didn't pay him. But still, one could be led to believe that they had a payment lined up if he was that close to committing.

I'm gonna wait for the NCAA to shake all the trees here, but so far nothing too damning has come out about Newton, just his entourage.

As a poster above said, I think its more his entourage as well.

Do you think will hurt him as far as the Heisman voters are concerned, especially in the wake of the Reggie Bush fiasco? It would be human nature for the voters to have this in the back of their minds when filling out their ballots, wanting to ensure that another mistake isn't made, especially when the other one is fresh in everyone's minds.

Yea maybe if there was anyone else in the discussion. He is hands down the best player in college football this year.

He's not hands down the best player but, that's for another thread. There's too much money in college football to keep it perfectly clean, SEC may be the dirtiest but there're not alone.

Might be for another thread, but who do you consider to be close? I guess LaMichael James, but who else can you really throw in that conversation? Kellen Moore? Luck?
