Bob Stoops going to meet with Notre Dame

you wanna talk about a guy who has proven to win the big game, he's only won 1 National Title in 3 trips and they haven't been close in the last couple of BCS games they've played in; hasn't beaten Texas in a while either....

They lost to Florida by 10. You know, the same Florida who is in dynasty mode right now. Furthermore, they kicked some serious ranked ass last season.

they lost to Florida by 10 but I'm not so sure they were ever in the game in the 2nd half. They couldn't establish anything offensively

    Purdue.

The truth is, we could go back and forth, like every other thread, until our fingers hurt; or we could actually discuss some football intelligently? WOuld that be so much to ask for?

I think this look absolutely fantastic! :D

Now, just hand it to this guy, please:

Well, his team played for a national title last season which is better than not playing for one. At least that's what I've been told before on here.

    Sounds familiar.

First of all, it would be a great pick up for ND. Second, maybe because I'm on my phone, but I can't find anything on the internet about ND meeting with Stoops.

It's still all speculation at this point - you won't find anything solid out there yet.

Is this the savior to all of the Irish fans who got embarassed by Boise State?

Who said he was a savior? All the fans are asking for is a guy who knows how to coach college football, and has had sustained success doing so.
  • killer_ewok
Savior??? Who said that? Huge upgrade from Weis? Absolutely. I said that and so did a few others.

Losing by 1-point in OT to a program that is now a regular in the top 10 is embarrassing?

Ahhhh ok. That makes sense now.

I have a feeling we'll see the wheels in motion later this evening... I don't think Notre Dame is going to drag their feet on getting rid of Weis and beginning to contact people.

    both stoops and swarbrick deny

Of course they'll deny, it's the professional thing to do as Stoops and Weis both had remaining games. I don't put a lot of stock into that article.

Maybe this is true, maybe its not. The report that they are meeting holds as much as the report that both denied it. I doubt anyknow other then those involved closely with both, know whats going on. How often in the past have we heard about "certain" coaches meeting with whomever, then to find out it was bogus.
And sure ND fans are going to be VERY hopeful and optimistic this is happening. When in fact, it mgiht not be happening. I have seen this with OSU football and basketball when all these names appear in the media.

I didn't know they were going after Tressel! :)

I really think that it's going to be Stoops. If I'm wrong.....you guys can let me have it.
  • rocket31
i would be very happy if it were stoops, however, i am hesitant to claim we *have him* because of the urban meyer debacle a few years prior...
  • sherm03
I'll be happier than a pig in shit if/when Bob is announced as the new head coach!

Understandable and in reality....that's the correct approach.

    I have questions.

When Davies was hired who was premiere and why did Notre dame not get them?

When Willingham was hired who was premiere and why did Notre dame not get them?

When Weis was hired who was premiere and why did Notre dame not get them?

What makes anyone believe they will get a premiere head coach this time around? What is the difference this time?

Were there not rumors flying around during each of the other hirings that some premiere coach was coming to Notre Dame?

These are not rhetorical questions but an honest attempt to discover the difference now and those other times?
  • Mr Pat
Davie was the DC during the Holtz years and I don't know how the search went. Willingham was hired because Notre Dame hired O'Leary then found out he lied on his resume so they fired him. Weis was hired when Meyer and a few others turned him down. Part of the reason was the perception that Notre Dame couldn't attract good recruits anymore. Weis in all his failings, did prove that if you work you could get good players to come to Notre Dame. The job is a lot more attractive now than it was after Willingham.

Well, it's been a while but I'll do my best.

I think they wanted to stay "in-house" when Holtz left so that's why they went with Davie. HUGE mistake.

They had George O'Leary before the Ty hiring. O'Leary's resume had inaccuracies and so that got nixed.

They obviously wanted Urban Meyer and thought they had them but he went to Florida and ND had to settle for Weis. Names thrown around then were Meyer, Gruden, Shanahan, Petrino, Stoops and probably a few others I'm forgetting. ND had some talent then but lacked depth at key positions.

Why do I think it's different this time? Weis showed that ND can get some top talent and there is some that will still be there and they aren't lacking depth like they were before. ND is a more attractive job this time around IMO. There are some coaches evidently willing to listen and possibly even interested and there aren't really attractive jobs sitting out there like Florida was a few years ago. It's not like ND is competing with another school for a coach like they were the last time.
