Iowa or PSU for the Fiesta Bowl?

  • darbypitcher22
They probably are a lot more attractive option; bigger fan base, longer pedigree, etc. but it would be a crime for Cincy to get left out.

And I agree with Cincy winning and making this a moot point

If Cincinnati loses to Pittsburgh, they have as good a chance to make a BCS bowl as the Freehuddle Pickup football team.

I know that if it was based strictly on football and I had to pick between a 2 loss Iowa and Penn State and a 1 loss Cincy, I'd take the 1 loss Cincy. obviously its not competely based on that

    Neither

    Who then?

That's the interesting question. Who else is worthy?

Iowa...ehhhh...no thanks. Not a very good following (fan-wise) and just aren't a very exciting team..I think the Fiesta Bowl will skip over them.

    I agree, 1 bid league.
Right... Because Boise has played such great teams...

They won is a VERY sloppy game against Oregon, and then the best team they played after that was Fresno State.

PSU or Iowa would be the favorite and win this game, IMO.

Neither, the Big 10 doesn't deserve a 2nd team. I would rather see 2 non BCS conference teams in there.

Exactly. There really isn't another team that has a shot, in my opinion. If it comes down to Iowa and Penn State, which it should as long as there are no big upsets next week, then I would have to go with Iowa since they beat PSU head-to-head.

Boise at least stepped up and played Oregon! Much better than Penn State playing Akron(terrible), Syracuse(looked promising, but still, terrible), Temple(who ended upbeing bowl eligible and halfway decent, but still not great caliber in a weak MAC this year) and FCS Eastern Illinois

And I see where you're right about there not really being another worthy team... nobody is going to take 4 loss Clemson team if Tech beats them next week... and Idon't see them taking a 3 loss Tech team either... so as much as we hate it and don't agree with it, it looks as if the Big Ten will in fact be a 2 bid league... or could be

TCU and Boise will already be in. Do you mean a non-BCS team other than them?

Like we talked about last night, though. These schedules are planned years apart. Now I think PSU could have tried harder to get a different game, but this isn't NCAA Football '10, where you can just delete somebody off your schedule and throw in a ranked team, or anything like that.

I think PSU is better than Iowa, but Iowa was just playing better football earlier in the year.

I just don't think that Boise would beat either team. I think they'd be very tough, and close games however.

I think they'd take an 11-1 Cincy team
If I remember correctly there were huge sections of the stadium that were completely empty last year. That is pathetic for any post-New years bowl, let alone a BCS one. I'm not saying it's all Cinci's fault, in fact it could have been Va Tech's fault, but that is going to have to play a factor if Cinci doesn't clinch the auto bid.
  • darbypitcher22
yeah I know the schedules are planned years apart but Akron hasn't been that great since '05, Syracuse has been on the decline since Donavan McNabb left town, Temple is an in-state game and Eastern Illinois fills what would have been a bye

I'm pretty sure that you cannot be selected as an "at-large" pick if you have three losses. I think that is in the BCS by-laws. With that being, I think the only way Iowa is not in the Fiesta Bowl is if Nebraska knocks off Texas.

    NCG
    Alabama vs. Texas

    Rose
    OSU vs. Oregon

    Fiesta
    Iowa vs. Boise

    Sugar
    Florida vs. TCU

    Orange
    Georgia Tech vs. Cincinnati

Not true about the 3 loss deal; it has to do with your positioning, not how many losses you have

It doesn't have to do with losses, but you must have at least 9 wins to be considered for an At-Large bid.

With GA Tech losing, this is shaping up to be the worst BCS bowl schedule of all-time. If Oregon State and Pitt win, it's basically sealed.

My bad, I don't know why I thought that. I guess I can blame it on vodka :)

I don't know... 2001-2003 had some pretty weak matchups and some predictable outcomes...

    2001
    Rose #4 Washington 34, Purdue 24
    Sugar #3 Miami 37, #7 Florida 20
    Fiesta #6 Oregon State 41, #11 Notre Dame 9
    Orange #1 Oklahoma 13, #2 Florida State 2

    2002
    Rose #1 Miami 37, #2 Nebraska 14
    Sugar #13 LSU 47, #8 Illinois 34
    Fiesta #4 Oregona 38, #3 Colorado 16
    Orange #5 Florida 56, #10 Maryland 23

    2003
    Rose #7 Oklahoma 34, #7 Washington State 14
    Sugar #3 Georgia 26, #14 Florida State 13
    Fiesta #2 Ohio State 31, #1 Miami 24 (2OT)
    Orange #4 USC 38, #5 Iowa 17

When all else fails, blame it on the goose. ;)

I think t will be Iowa so long as Cincy beats Pitt. Otheriwse, the Big East will get 2 bids instead of the Big 10.
  • krazie45
I think it would benefit the Big-10's bowl record more if Iowa did not go to a BCS bowl and played in the Capital One bowl which would bump the entire conference down a game. I think the Big-10 would definitely have a winning record in their bowl games in that scenario.
  • darbypitcher22
You think Iowa would stand a better chance of beating a 3 Loss LSU team in the Capital One than Boise State?
