Ohio State vs. St. Francis (PA)

    I wish Ohio State would schedule better teams than this yawner. Boring game to watch, Ohio State dominated and that's an understatement.

    Every team schedules teams like this early. It is what it is. As far as watching, I was at the game it was actually very entertaining from the standpoint that OSU played great team ball, a lot of highlight, great moves, etc, etc. The fans were very appreciative of how OSU played during the game as well. Of course, I did bolt with just under 10 min to go! ;)

    My friends and I had fun watching it on TV. If for no other reason than it was great watching the Buckeyes looking like the Harlem Globetrotters with the way they were decimating their opponents.

    Even teams like St. Frances find cupcakes for their early season schedule.

    Most teams draw a line though, this should have been an exhibition opponent for a top 25 team, not a regular season opponent. They had no business being in the same gym.

    I'm aware that every team in the NCAA does this, but like I said I wish Ohio State would play top 25 competition week in, week out out of conference. In conference is going to be a battle, but man something is just not right playing St. Francis.

    There is no school for St. Francis to play that is considered a cupcake to them if you want to stay in Division 1 ball.

    Yeah, they were a freshman-dominated team that simply doesn't look capable of competing in D1 right now. Maybe when their kids mature, they'll be better, but they weren't even a speed bump.

    While I agree the game was a joke (except for the entertainment factor from watching them basically show off for the crowd), I'd guess I wasn't so lazy, I could look at the schedules of many top teams and find one or two games like this.

    Sleeper, I personally like their non-conference schedule. UNC, Cali, Butler, FSU, West Virginia are all good teams. Gotta have a few laughers, so the studs aren't doing 38+ minutes a night every night and the lesser guys get a bit of exercise in game situations.

    Had OSU lost to Lipscomb or James Madison or UNC/Syracuse/Cal lost their opening round games, OSU's schedule would look extremely weak right now. The UNC/Cal games were not scheduled games(might as well have been but there was a small chance going into them that 1 of the 4 teams lost).

    I'm sorry sportswiz, but you are completely wrong about a couple of things. First of all, what does the Lipscomb game have to do with anything? It was played after OSU played UNC and Cal. Secondly, you are wrong about the Buckeyes' game against James Madison (and Alcorn State). It made no difference if they lost one or both of those games. Those were essentially regional warm-up games even though they were part of the Coaches v. Cancer in title. If you looked at a schedule before the season began, OSU was slated to play UNC on Nov.19th and either Syracuse or Cal on Nov.20th. So yes, they were scheduled games.

    Lastly, how can you call osu's schedule "extremely weak?" They have three pre-season Top 10 teams (UNC, Butler, West Virginia; none of which are in Columbus by the way) and three other 2009 NCAA tourney teams in Florida State, Cal, and Cleveland State. It may not be one of the toughest in the country, but it is certainly not weak. Pick on a team that actually has a weak schedule like Penn State with their three toughest non-conference opponents being Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Temple.

    As for people knocking St.Francis, who cares? Every top team has a few cupcakes, does it matter that much if you beat them by 25 or 60? You are basically getting the same thing in both situations, build confidence for your team, get some rest for your studs, and more game experience for your bench. Also, Notre Dame scheduled St. Francis and the game was actually in single digits in the 2nd half before the Irish pulled away and won by 23.

    You are right I am wrong. I did not realize that the Coaches vs Classic tournament was ran that way. I thought it was ran like a regular tournament is conducted(winner advances, loser does not or plays in consolation round). It was ran like the CBE classic in which Iowa went 0-4 and essentially got 4th place because they too were a regional host.

    The extremely weak comment was under the assumption that if UNC or OSU lost(which you corrected me) OSU and UNC would not have played and OSU wouldnt have UNC on their resume. I guess it didnt matter one way or the other.

    Central Ark
    Tenn Tech
    Alcorn State (OSU played them)
    and Oakland

    How about UNC:
    Florida International
    North Carolina Central
    Presbyterian(OSU oppon)
    Albany

    Or how about UK:
    Morehead State
    Sam Houston State
    North Carolina Ashville
    Longbeach State
    Austin Peay

    Sorry, this arguement comes up EVERY year. Could OSU schedule be tougher? Sure it could. But they play the weak sisters of the poor, just as EVERYONE else does.

    Well then, prove it. It doesn't take much time to pull up schedules from anyone on espn website. Please find me a team that does NOT schedule at least 3-5 gimmie games. Then come back and talk. I just randomly pulled those above. Could have provided MUCH more.

    You are completely unknowledgeable.They(such as St' Francis} DO NOT "want to stay in Division 1 ball". Low level new DI teams like St. Francis also play weak teams. They play lesser lower Division teams, teams they used to play and beat before recently moving up to DI.

    Michigan State, who's fans incessantly brag about how Izzo schedules non-conference games to get them ready or the tournament. Really? This year MSU's schedule includes: Northwood, Grand Valley State, Florida Gulf Coast, Toledo, Valpariso, Wolford, The Citadel, IPFW, and Texas Arlington. NINE teams the #2 team in the country should beat by at least 30 points. Michigan State doesn't even want to "stay in Division I ball." A couple of their opponents aren't Division I schools.

    EVERYONE DOES IT.

    Grand Valley State was not an exhibition. Only one exhibition game is allowed. If Florida Gulf Coast is a D1 they haven't been for long.

    Yes, Grand Valley was an Exhibition. You are allowed two Exhibitions.

    FGCU is a D1, but just moved up a few years ago.

    Go to Michigan State's OWN Sports web site. The Men's basketball section shows Northwood as an exhibition game, but they do not show Grand Valley State as an exhibition game.
