Robbie Hummel OUT for the Season
-
Pick6that sucks.
-
centralbucksfanJust saw this reported on ESPN. What bad luck for Hummel as well for Purdue. They will still be good..but not nearly as good as they are with Hummel on the floor.
-
Laley23There goes any hopes for championship(s) they had this year.
They will probably fall to a middle of the pack Big Ten team this season (around 5th Id think).
HORRIBLE news for Hummel, but forgive me while I dont feel bad for Purdue -
Laley23BTW, what is going on with Purdue and ACLs?
Hummel(bb) multiple times. Marve multiple times(fb), Keith(fb), Bolden(fb), and a baseball player I heard has had 2 ACL surgeries. Something is going on with their rehab program. 3 guys who suffered torn ACLs twice is not a fluke. -
karen lotzHate to hear that. When did he originally tear it? Late February?
-
CinciX12Wow, the 2nd day of practice? Brutal. 2 ACL tears also pretty much rules out the NBA probably doesn't it?
-
thedynasty1998Terrible news. I always thought Hummel was a little overrated, but regardless of that he plays the game the right way and really plays hard. Hate to see an injury to anyone, but especially to someone like Hummel who tore it last year for a team that had a solid shot at making a run in the tournament.
With that said, he should be able to apply for a medical redshirt if he so chooses. Will be interesting to see if he regains strength if he will pursue a career professionally or come back for another year. -
hoops23Iowa's football program has had some recent ACL injuries as well..

Maybe, maybe not. They did make the sweet 16 without Hummel. But they did struggle offensively big time down the stretch prior to the NCAA.Laley23;521470 wrote:There goes any hopes for championship(s) they had this year.

It's a little different losing a player before the season when you have time to prepare for it, then it is at the end of the season where you have to make major adjustments on the fly.
Purdue will still be a force because of their style and defensive prowess, but me thinks their national title hopes are gone. -
Hb31187Im curious of what type of ACL surgery he had, because if they repaired the ACL with a cadaver or with his patela tendon(like i had done) its MUCH stronger than if he used part of his hamstring.

EVERYONE here in West Lafayette is thinking the same thing.... -

Thats true. But their recruiting has blown recently, and they lost Hummel (now with the ACL), Kearton Grant (Graduation) and Kramer (Graduation). They basically have Moore and Johnson. Lew Jackson at PG could be a force, but he regressed quite a bit imo. It will be interesting to see how he recovers from his injury.
Their season, unfortunately for them I think relies directly on SO Patrick Bade and FR Terone Johnson and Travis Carrol. But I would be shocked if any of them contributed anything of note consistently throughout the season. -
Prescott
Awesome!! They beat Texas A&M BY (2)points in OT.They did make the sweet 16 without Hummel -
UA5straightin2008they dropped from 2 to 23 in katz preseason poll on espn

reclegend22Certainly an unfortunate situation for both Hummel and Purdue. The Boilermakers will have zero chance of winning a national title this season. And that's a shame, because they were as serious a threat as Michigan State or Duke. I think that some, even with Purdue's proven position in recent years as an elite contender and the (would have been) inclusion of Hummel back into the lineup, still doubted Matt Painter's club as a real threat to win the Final Four. With Hummel, Purdue was just that. (I would NOT have wanted to see a Hummel-led Purdue squad in last season's South Regional, and Duke was crazy good during the Tournament.)
This really sucks. As a fan of the game, you want to see the best take on the best. Absolutely you do. This injury is a major blow to the college basketball landscape for 2010-11, removing one of the season's true heavy hitters. Hopefully, Hummel is able to come to terms with this and not place the burden of his school's dashed title hopes purely on his shoulders. I can't imagine what the young man is feeling right now. -
ou1980Hummell is returning next season, taking grad school classes and red shirting this season...but he will be back for the 2011-2012 season.
Barring anymore injuries......
