Michigan St. was upset by Florida tonight. Perhaps this win will signal the return of the Gators to the NCAA tournament having failed to get there two straight years after back to back national titles.

What suprised me was that looking at the box score UF didn't shoot well at all and still pulled the upset. MSU is famous for its tough D and making games a grind but usually they win these games and it takes a hot shooting team (a la UNC last year) to beat them as MSU does struggle to score at times. That wasn't the case in this one it seems as UF seemingly beat MSU at their own game.

This loss likely means that the Big XII will own the top 2 spots in the polls on Monday as Kansas continues its reign as #1 and Texas should move to #2.

I haven't been impressed with MSU at all this year. They've had some close games and it looks like it finally caught up to them.

MSU goes to Carolina on Tuesday. They already had a lot of motivation to win that game after being hammered twice last year, but now they're also coming off a loss. I'm not sure I like this situation.

Lol MSU always has some close games, Dunno why people are surprised. By tourny time theyll be firing on all cylinders

That's why college basketball is so great, there is parity and a loss doesn't really hurt you. This win should tell us more about Florida than it does Michigan State.

^Yes. That's how I felt when Gonzaga played them close. It told me more about the Zags than it did anything else.

I agree with the above two points. But I also think, once again, the Big Ten is getting a whole lot of "best conference" praise for not much reason. Quite frankly.

Purdue is solid, but they lost one of their stars for the year, and that same core group of players got clocked in the ACC-Big Ten challenge a year ago. At home. The Tennessee win was solid, but I'm not convinced. MSU, the supposed number two team and the crème de la crème in the Big Ten, should have lost in the Breslin Center to Gonzaga and has now lost to unranked Florida. Although both teams (Zags and Gators) look to be for real this season, MSU seems to be having trouble all around this season with close games and putting teams away. Toledo stuck with the Spartans for a long stretch, in fact. Again, not convinced.

Ohio State? We saw how the Buckeyes answered the call on the big stage against a, currently, slightly above average UNC team. They didn't, and got smashed -- until the young Heels allowed OSU back into the game at the end. OSU will obviously get better toward the end of the year, but so will the Heels. If they play again in March, I'm taking the ACC in that one by 20.

I see the depth, but I'm not seeing the power.

^^^ And then OSU went out and beat preseason Pac 10 favorite Cal.

You can't take anything from early season games. That doesn't mean they're not great to watch, but if the NCAA committee doesn't put too much stock into them, then I don't either.

Didn't say it wasn't?? The Cuse took apart my Heels like I haven't seen since the game against Kansas.

I'm not a Buckeye hater if you think I am. I like OSU, they have good team. But the win over Cal is not that great of a win. Had they been at full strength, it's a different story. It's a good win, no doubt; but not a great one like some people think.

Who said it was a "great" win? I think most would agree it was a good win.
And lets not forget, OSU had not been practicing with Lauderdale for good part of the preseason, going into the season. So they weren't exactly healthy either.
Sorry, get tired of people continually downplaying OSU opponents/making excuses. Most every team has to deal with adversity at some point in the season. Its part of sports.

Michigan State will be fine. They have the talent to get to the Final Four(obviously) and they have a coach who has been there before. November and December wins and losses don't prove much either way.

cbf, there are far more Ohio State whiners than logical Ohio State fans.

There are literally dozens of teams that can beat anyone of the dozens on any given night.

Minnesota beats Butler by 11 then loses to Portland State. Portland State could be the surprise team of the year.

Northwestern beat Notre Dame. Wisconson beat Maryland.

Big Ten doesnt look to have a whole lot of great teams. I think MSU is the only team that has a FF run in them, heck maybe even an elite 8 run. I think they have 7 teams who can make the tourny and only 3 that can advance past the first weekend. Tons of depth, little muscle.
