Preseason top 25

Another awesome Big Blue Madness in the books. Kanter coming out last with the Undertaker hat and theme music was great. This group may just define excitement just like last year's squad did. They have big shoes to fill, not just in achievement, but in enjoyment for everyone around the program. Such a leader like Patterson, a great character like Boogie Cousins and such a talent like Wall...

5 Big 10 teams in the top 25 including Purdue MSU and OSU going 2 3 4.

The Big 10 will again be the best conference and will beat the ACC in the Big 10 vs ACC challenge. Life is good as a Big 10 fan.

The Big 10 is 1-10 vs the ACC in the challenge and hasn't won a championship since 2000 and life as a Big 10 fan is good?
When was the Big 10 the best conference? Preseason rankings mean jack.

Lol I will make an avatar bet with you that the Big 10 does not win the ACC/Big 10 Challenge.

Well thats not the dumbest thing I have seen lately or anything..

Not that preseason rankings really mean much in bball...but the loss of Hummel will drop Purdue down significantly.

katz new rankings have purdue at 23
  • OQB
Preseason Rankings Mean nothing, heck all that matters is you get to play in March, and you win those games in the Tourney.

A better question to ask is, what Trouble will Calipari get into this season?
  • GOONx19
    ^ This is very original.
  • OQB
May be "original" but you know he is going to do something that will get im in trouble. You must be a Wildcat fan....

Thats a big drop. I would put them at 15 or so.
  • Azubuike24
Calipari hasn't been in trouble at Kentucky yet. However, there are dozens of other coaches that have.

The last line of the article is fairly interesting....
In all, nine teams -- led by No. 9 North Carolina -- that finished last season unranked now hold spots in the preseason poll.
  • CinciX12
Yeah that just leads me to believe that a lot of schools are sliding by on name alone.

^^^^Thats what most polls are about.

Carolina and Purdue(minus Robbie) are really the only 2 teams I see that are WAY to high.

I don't think Purdue is anywhere near a top 10 team without him. I see them around 15-17.

And Carolina, well the Heels are coming off a 20-17 season. Enough said. I see them more around 15-17, like Purdue.

I'd agree with this. Unless Barnes is as good as advertised. He could be "that" player who elevates UNC. You can't tell me they don't have some talent, they do. And if Barnes is THAT good...
  • Heelz
It only takes that "one guy" to pull all the right things together on a team, hopefully Barnes is that guy,
  • Laley23
I dont know if I think UNC is a top 10 team preseason, but I certainly dont have a problem with it. They added Barnes, the #1 recruit, and finally have a healthy Tyler Zeller. They are basically adding the #1 frosh and a 5* Junior to their team. Plus their other burger boys are a year advanced.

Watched Duke play the D2 CIAA champ St.Augustine's Saturday night.

Yikes this team has a chance at being very very good come March.

why the hell is Ohio State ranked that high? They aren't that good
  • Azubuike24
OSU has a top 3-5 incoming class and returns a team (minus Evan Turner, and yes I know he was a 1st team AA) that went to the sweet 16. Are they really top 5 material, who knows, but given how we formulate most preseason polls, I have no problem with them that high. With today's game, there is so much turnover of rosters, teams that return a ton of experience combined with bringing in top recruiting classes are gong to generally be at the top of the polls. That's why you see Duke, Ohio State, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Villanova and others there.

Overrated on this list: Ohio State (slightly, worried about PG and just unsure how much they will really miss everything Turner did), Missouri (I don't even see them as top 4 in the Big 12 when it's over (BU, KU, KSU and A&M better), Washington (by a good amount, they got hot late and ran away in a very weak Pac 10...Isaiah Thomas is untrustworthy as a dominant leader), Minnesota (not even in the top 25 IMO, especially in the Big Ten where they have struggled to establish themselves), North Carolina (default overrated, but I have a feeling they will get here when all is said and done, but too much unknown for 12th), Syracuse (people don't realize how important those 3 guys were to that system).

Underrated on this list: Villanova (More Fisher/Wayns and others, less Reynolds = better, I see Nova as a heavy favorite in a down Big East), Temple (the class of the A-10 easily, they will be able to grind it with anyone, Allen can dominate more than he's shown), Georgia (3rd best SEC team IMO, better than Vanderbilt and Tennessee (close)), San Diego State (very young and far exceeded expectations last year, return everyone from a team that won the tough MWC), Murray State (how this team that won over 30 games isn't preseason top 25 is beyond me, the best mid-major 2010 (I don't count Butler, Gonzaga or Xavier), Florida (if Billy Donovan can't do it with this roster, he doesn't have it, make or break year for him), Butler (Probably fair if you are ranking best teams, but Butler isn't going to lose games they shouldn't which means likely another unbeaten Horizon season and a ranking high than they deserve almost all year)
