Toledo at Bowling Green

Is Barnes getting close to the reception record?
  • newarkcatholicfan
I think they said he is six away.

    Thanx...watching now.

Toledo fumbles at the Falcons 11 yard line and B/G/ recovers it.

They are now reviewing the play.........

    Falcons ball.

    I thought he was down.

Rockets got hosed on the fumble by Page. Forward progress was clearly stopped and no whistle. Disappointing.

    Agreed!!

    GO BGSU!!!

This was my last home as a BG student... it was cold out there... but, well worth it.

What a great way to end the season for BG.

It's always a good day when Toledo loses -- especially to BG.

Too bad they won't get a bowl game so Barnes could break the record, but it's not going to be in the cards, I don't think. Ohio, Temple and Central Michigan have very good overall records and will get all the slots for MAC schools. I don't see BG getting one with a 7 and 5 record.

    Great job BGSU!

    Freddie Barnes is a MONSTER.

First, congratulations to the Falcons for their win but...................

This is the big rivalry of the year for both of these teams and it looked ominous for the Rockets early. They were, to be charitable, pitiful for the first quarter. They literally handed the ball to the Falcons and said.."Here's the ball fellas, why don't you march it the final yard or two into the end zone?" Two badly blocked punts, atrocious Rockets special team play. I almost felt sorry for the Rockets in that quarter and when the touchdown was disallowed and the Falcons had to settle for a 24-0 lead instead of a 28-0 first quarter lead, I didn't imagine in my wildest dreams that the Falcons would be involved in a 24-24 game in the fourth quarter. It appeared that while the Rockets finally woke up and to their credit completely shut down the Falcons, whose offense was pretty stagnant all game until those two scores late in the game,The Rocket offense appeared to be able to do just about anything they wanted to the Falcons for the vast majority of the game. That worries me if the Falcons go Bowling. They will have to be more consistent and I'm sure at practice, the Falcons will be reminded of that numerous times. Again, way to go BG, nice win over the Rockets (as in "any win over the Rockets is a good win") but let's end the season with a Bowl victory if there is a Bowl for us.

I have to think, after watching that game in the freezing cold, Toledo would win that game seven times out of ten. That first quarter was some of the worst football I've ever seen. I coach football, so I know the players make mistakes, not coaches ;) ; but come one! TWO BLOCKED PUNTS?! That Special Teams Coordinator needed a kick to the shin, he handed Bowling Green the game today. It's a shame Toledo, arguably the most talented offensive group in the conference, ended the season at a mere 5-7.

Tim Beckman will have this Toledo program going in the direction it should be:

If Toledo truly is "arguably the most talented offensive group in the conference" then you have to wonder if the coaching you are praising isn't the reason they don't have a better record.

Yes, I realize special teams errors and defense played heavily into this game, but if you are all that talent, you shouldn't have a losing record as a coach.

It's one of the main reasons Clawson is the coach at Bowling Green now and not Brandon. He had loads of talent while he was there, but struggled to win when he should have.

In any case, I'm very happy to end the season like this and if BG happens to get a bowl game, all the better. In the meantime, I wish UT only the worst for the future. :P
