Week 7: Iowa (4-1) at Michigan (5-1)

Rodriguez hinted that personnel changes may be coming on a defense that ranks as the Big Ten's worst.
    That couldn't hurt...

    Denard at corner--he'd be a bitch!!! ;)
  • Tiernan
    ^^^
that's what he'll play in the NFL...may as well get used to it.

I think they are replacing Obi Ezeh at MLB with a scarecrow against the Hawkeyes.

I see a lot of this happening vs Iowa

So by your reasoning (which is awful) Arizona is Michigan?

Michigan St spanked Michigan, Iowa's defense is better than Michigan St's Iowa wins this one.

    Score?

    A guess Iowa 27 Michigan 13

    I like your thinking.

Well you could keep going and say Oregon State > Iowa. Right? By "my" reasoning.

    42-14 Iowa...

By your reasoning, Michigan has an explosive offense. In reality, they're mediocre.

Need a couple more games to determine that. You could be right. Or you could be wrong.

    Opponent/Michigan total yds:
    Connecticut (3-3): 473
    Notre Dame (3-3): 532
    UMass (4-1): 525
    Bowling Green (1-5) 721
    Indiana (3-2): 574
    (#17) Michigan State (6-0): 377

Seems to me like when they play team that don't suck they don't accumulate as many yards (and lose).

Well 377 yards, 19 first downs, and 4.8 per rush against a top 25 team isn't exactly terrible. It was the the turnovers and bad defense that killed them.

I agree with you, I was moreso showing the significant dip in yardage when they play quality teams. They get slowed down quite a bit.

As for the turnovers killing them, I agree. But you can't say that it was just Denard making poor throws...he was flustered by the D in his face all game.

I would not say that, your reasoning is extremely flawed by comparing Arizona to Michigan.

    Which I never did.

I think it's safe to say that most teams would have more yardage against BG and Indiana than a top 25 team, no?

Iowa's defense is good, but I think ESPN said Arizona's offense is the highest ranked they've faced, and they're 42nd in the nation. Just putting it into perspective.

    Stop it with your facts.

That doesn't necessarily mean Iowa's defense isn't great, it just means they haven't played a great offense yet. But then again, I heard similar stuff from Michigan fans last week about Mich St.

So Michigans offense not having played a real defense makes their offense overrated

Iowas defense not having played a real offense just means theyre good and just havent played a real offense?

Well, Mich State did give up 377 yards and 19 first downs.

Anyway, Iowa's defense is good. I just don't think it is quite as good as their rankings. I doubt Iowa is a top 5 defense at the end of the season. You?
  • dat dude
No, I do not think they are top 5. I stated earlier on another thread that defensive statistics are largely overrated. However, I do think they are very tough, especially their front four. Probably a top 15 defense.

And I never said the Michigan offense was overrated, so I have no idea what the post is supposed to mean.

Wasnt just in response to you Dat. Just seems that most people have came to the conclusion that Michigans offense is overrated because they put up so many yards on lesser defenses. But on this thread most of them are saying how Iowa is gonna shut Michigan down because their D is so good,Yet they havent played a real offense themselves. Doesnt really make sense to me
