College football is terrible this year.

the_systemHear me out.
Previously I've tried to justify certain conferences being better than others but when you really look at it, college football is awful this year.
SEC - Everyone thinks this conference is the best conference every year. And prior to this year they've had a good argument. Plenty of national titles and competition. This year? It's terrible. Alabama is awesome, but there are no teams I can see challenging them. Tennessee is putrid, so is LSU, and Georgia, even Florida has looked like shit against terrible teams.
B10 - Buckeyes. The rest is pretty damn bad. Michigan can score and not stop a team from scoring at the same time. Wisconsin was supposed to be for real this year and they have looked mediocre. Penn State has looked mediocre, and I don't think Iowa is that good either.
B12 - Huskers. The rest has looked pretty bad. Texas hasn't found itself after McCoy, and Oklahoma plays to the level of their competition. After thinking OkState was a threat I think they'll be in trouble when they run into a stout defense like Nebraska's.
ACC - yeah...
Big East - mmm hmm...
Remaining conferences combined - BSU and TCU. The rest...no.
This literally IS a year where 5-6 teams could be undefeated at the end of the year. There just aren't too many teams in my opinion that are capable of beating these teams. It's possible I guess, but they would have to play lights out and hope for a lot of luck. Anyone with me here?
It could be a BCS meltdown year... -
devil1197Or is there more parity this year where the decent teams are beating up on each other?
No matter what college football will never be terrible to me. -

I'm not saying I don't like watching it either. I guess what I'm trying to say is it seems like the teams I mentioned above seem to have separated themselves so much from the rest of the competition. In previous years, you could COUNT on Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, etc. giving OSU a run. The SEC was always a tossup between Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, Bama. B12 would have Texas, OU, Nebraska, and teams like Missouri, OkState, and KState more than capable of beating anyone of them. Not seeing that at all this year. -
devil1197I am still counting on Iowa and Wisky giving OSU a run, those games are away and will be very tough.
Arkansas took Bama to the wire already this year, it could happen again.
The B12 is weak with Texas not being good but Oklahoma and Nebraska look fine especially Nebraska. -
Little DannyThere's more parity in college football than ever before. Scholarship limitations and the spread offense have been great equalizers. The truth of the matter is there are about a handful of schools that are much better than the rest. There are then about another 20-40 schools that are pretty close, then a drop to another 20 or so, and then it plummets after that into awfulness. The 20-40 schools that are close could play each other tough on any given day. Injuries, turnovers and homefield advantage might give one school the edge over the other.
Frankly, I enjoy the parity much more than the old days when State U. (ie. OSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Michigan, etc.) had about 150 guys on scholarships and could name the score against everyone else they played. -
I Wear PantsHopefully the BCS burns to the ground.

You might want to rethink that. -
Mohican00you're terrible for talking shit about college football
-
centralbucksfanBottom line is there is more parity. The SEC has come back to the field along with others catching up. With Bama going down, we may not see an SEC team in the title this year. Could we see a Rose Bowl rematch?

Michigan State? last I checked they were still undefeated and they don't play OSU this year...the_system;513273 wrote: B10 - Buckeyes. The rest is pretty damn bad. Utah? Nevada? Both ranked in the top 20.the_system;513273 wrote:Remaining conferences combined - BSU and TCU. The rest...no. -

Much like a thread, when you post on it. -
jordo212000I don't think this has been a terrible college football season yet, sure there haven't been as many huge upsets yet (until today) but I think that will change when we get a little deeper into the conference schedules. Seems like there were very few key OOC matchups this year

I think we all still have a bit of a hangover from the 2007 season when every week the #1 or #2 team in the country went down every week. That was the year of the upset and every week was exciting because you knew some big upsets were going to come and you just watched all day to see what would happen. I don't think that we'll ever see a year like that again. Also, people like seeing new teams liek Rutgers, South Florida, and Boise State high in the polls for the first time. But now you have the traditional powers back at the top and Boise and TCU have been good enough for long enough that people don't think it's "cool" to see them up near the top because they're not considered underdogs anymore. -
the_systemhaha when I made this topic I knew shit would blow up on me. I was going to put a PS at the end saying 'watch one, or more, of these teams lose today'.
I might make one of these every week until everyone loses -
#1DBagAny sport where you can be undefeated and not the champion is terrible.

I don't think he is a Domer. You, on the other hand, seem to have quite the hard on for Notre Dame. -
