Are the top teams seperating themselves from the herd already?

  • Zombaypirate
At what point in the top 25 are the top contenders for the National title seperating themselves from the rest of the pack?

I think every team in the top ten has legitimate case right now that they may move up and challenge for the National title.

At what point do you seperate the contenders from the pretenders if you can make such a black and white line.

As an example IMO Oregon and Iowa both are very powerful teams this year which are close to on par with the #1 and #2 teams in the nation.

Anyone willing to go out on a limb and say there really are a definitive top 2 teams?

This year seems to be a bit more wide open than last year.

    Discussion please.

    Alabama

Thank you for your insight. Can you please explain why a team that lost 9 starters on defense including Arenas, Mt Cody, and Rolondo McClain is the definitive top team? I am not seeing it at all

    No it's not

Have you seen them play yet?

Yes, I watched the entire Penn St game where Penn St gained 127 yards rushing at 4.1 YPC with 9 in the box against a freshman Qb. Not that impressive IMO

Alabama lost 9 starters on defense and they did not reload. This team is not as good as last years. So far no secondary player as good as Arenas. No linebacker as Good as McClain and No defensive frontman as good as Mt Cody. That is what I am seeing. The defense has holes.

Alabama is the best team in the country and nobody will come within 2 TD's of them

You sound quite confident are you willing to wager that nobody (no TEAM) will come within 2 td's of them?

They play in the SEC and "nobody" (no team) will come within 2 td's of them? Hmmm I am skeptical for sure.

Bahahahaha!! There is not definitive top team right now. If OSU goes into Camp Randall, and comes out with a win, they will solidify their spot in the top 2. If 'Bama make it through their 3 week stretch after the Duke game undefeated, they will be a definitive #1, even though I'm not sold on Ark, Florida, or South Carolina as being as highly ranked as they are. It's definitely a tough stretch though.

    Sort of.
Bama and OSU have looked really solid.
    But, its only week three.

    It's a long season.

Anyone else want to weight in on this discussion? Oregon is looking pretty sharp, yes an undersized defense, but the offense is second to none, as far as scoring quickly and often.

What about Iowa, I know they have not made much noise lately, but their front 7 on defense are tremendous for sure and solid on offense. ( They scare me as Buckeye fan)

What about Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska? Boise St and TCU will probably run the table.

Could be a BCS buster this season with multiple undefeated teams and not all from the smaller conferences.

Ty..or Gibby..or Douche..I would bet my life that there will be more than 1 team come within 2tds of bama this year.

I see Nebraska winning the Big XII with one loss and Oregon going undefeated. Not sure how things align at that point.

I wouldn't say anyone is separating themselves from the pack... except Boise State. I mean, what more can they do? They beat VT and clearly deserve a shot at the NC now...

Oh sorry, I was thinking about last week when a lot of people were saying that.

But in all reality, the season is young. We have a long way to go and quite a few upsets to be had.

I agree, and that is a quality post. I figure it will be pretty tough for Alabama to lose at home, but the away games may cause some trouble for them. Arkansas may shock everyone.

There is a long season ahead of us. Sure, right now it appears that OSU and Alabama are the best two teams in the country. At season's end, that could still be the case. However, as we all know, anything could happen. Last year OSU lost to Purdue and Alabama nearly lost to TN. One or both of these teams could have that type of game which takes them out of the championship game. Also injuries could play a role. What if TP tears his ACL? What if Alabama has another injury? Some other school or schools could play spoiler and get into the title game like Oklahoma (I know a popular whipping boy on this board), Texas, Boise, TCU, Oregon and of course Iowa and Wisconsin.

Colin Cowherd was talking about this on his show today. He was saying that through two games Alabama and Ohio State have clearly established themselves as the top two teams. It's hard to tell how good Iowa really is since they haven't played anyone yet. Oklahoma obviously looked great last weekend. What Cowherd was saying though is that what separates Alabama and Ohio State from everyone else is the fact that they are the most experienced teams out there. They replaced the least players from last year, so that separates them from the rest.

I think he means of any team from a real conference.
