NCAA may investigate Tennessee Basketball
-
centralbucksfanOuch, Pearl docked 1.5 mil by Tenn for lying/ misleading the NCAA during investigation. Also restricted to campus recruiting only for a year. With all thats going on with NCAA investigations with SEC football, other basketball issues around the conference...sure doesn't look good for this conference. Win at all costs?

wildcats20Is it "only" 1.5?? I thought I heard on the Fan today that it was 2 mil?

Little DannyGiven some issues that took place with the football program under Lane Kiffin, any chance UT gets hit for a lack of institutional control?

Azubuike24The cell phones used to make the excessive calls are now being traced back to John Calipari's brother-in-law's former wireless retailer. There might be a huge cell phone usage ring going on here and Kentucky might be going down with this. Rumor has it the New York Times has been hot on the trail of this story for the last 3 months and will be publishing a damning article very shortly. Pearl might just be the first chip to fall here.

Laley23Phone calls. Gotta laugh. Maybe it will come back around and kill another program, but I doubt the repercussions are anywhere near what Indiana did to themselves.

Exactly what I was thinking. You would think coaches would know better first of all. Secondly, it wasn't long ago they saw what happened with Sampson. Laugh? Yes...but again, its a rule. If anyone has every looked at an NCAA handbook....many of the rules are laughable. But they are still rules.
Be interesting to see if anything comes of what AZU mentioned above. -

Are you really taking AZU serious? I havent heard or read anything like he posted, so Im guessing he is making a sarcasm joke towards you.centralbucksfan;483784 wrote: Be interesting to see if anything comes of what AZU mentioned above.
Now this is real. News about Bledsoe and grades/shouldnt of been able to play talk.

Azubuike24Yeah, I was obviously kidding about the cell phone thing.

Azubuike24As for the Bledsoe thing, the grades in question are from December of 2008. Before Calipari came to Kentucky and before he even had contact with Eric Bledsoe (as you recall, he recruited Bledsoe in the spring of 2009 for Memphis before going to UK). Sounds similar to the Darrell Arthur situation at Kansas where the Jayhawks weren't punished, but the law was laid down on the high school and the administration. Like it was said from the beginning, the issue had nothing to do with Kentucky other than them being the school Bledsoe chose. Any school he attended (and both Memphis and Florida wanted him until the last minute) would've had their name attached to the same issue. Then again, I doubt the name "Memphis" or "Florida" attached to the article earlier in the summer would've sparked the same interest this story has. Pretty par for the course though.

Will Cal have to forfeit yet another complete season? -
Azubuike24I'd be surprised if UK even gets a slap on the wrist. As it stated, the questions about his eligibility were prior to him even being recruited by Calipari and/or Kentucky.
Read the Darrell Arthur case. This is almost identical. -

Well see. Self and Kansas don't have much of a recent history with the NCAA like Cal and UK do. But even at that, it'll get the NCAA sniffing even more around the UK program at the very least. -

Well, when you have a background like Cal and UK do...its pretty easy to take the bait on about anything that comes up. And based on your comment...he had you looking/thining as well. -
centralbucksfanI realize exhibitions don't mean much...but D2 Indianapolis ripped Tenn last nite 79-64. With all that is going on with Pearl and Tenn(NCAA investigation)...this certainly doesn't help. Pretty big cloud hovering over Pearl and Tenn.
