Not taking anything away from Boise...but if Beamer had HALF A BRAIN...he runs the ball on 3rd down, when Boise had zero timeouts...then punts. This while the clock was running and under 2 min. That would have taken another 40 seconds off the clock before Boise got the ball back. But no, the dillrod throws a pass, incomplete. Add in a cheap call penalty on the personal foul to help as well.
Lets not forget the other bone head plays VaTech made in 1st qtr. Boise looked good...but VaTech helped them out as much as they could.
Nonsense post. It was 3rd and long...with plenty of time remaining. Beamer made the right call in going for the first down. Only an idiot runs it with 2.5 minutes left at that juncture. Oh....and BSU scored with 1:07 to play.
And finally....more "mistakes" were made by Boise...not Tech....look up the turnover numbers.
Boise State won...because they were the much better team...a team that overcame a pile of mistakes, and strung together a great drive...on the road...on national TV..... against the 6th rated team in the country.
Pretty effin strong in my book. -

.
Bullshit. The clock just went under 2 min as they approached the line of scrimmage. Run the ball, run off another 30-40 seconds. Get punt team on field, punt ball. Any coach in his right mind would do the same. That was a BONEHEAD mistake on Beamer.
And just because Boise scored with 1:07 doesn't mean the game would have played out like that had VaTech punted. Boise would have had more pressure on them with less time on the clock. Maybe they would have scored...maybe they wouldn't have. We'll never know now. -

No. The clock was 1:55 and Boise had no timeouts. (I was there, I remember going crazy) It was a 3rd and long, but Taylor had been getting good yards on scrambles. If it would have been a bootleg or rollout, he would have 1. took more time off the clock, and 2 probably be close to the 1st down.
Take into factor the play clock running and Boise would have gotten the ball with around 45-50 seconds. Yes, they did score in under a minute, but with 45-50 seconds, that is a completely different offense than a 2 mintue drill and who knows what plays could have worked.
Also, when VT had the ball on the 2nd down the RB ran out of bounds.
Yes, Boise won because they were the better team. They dominated the first quarter and played well in the 4th. They did deserve to win. But, it is stupid to ignore the awful coaching by Beamer down the stretch.
Oh, and VT going to 2 in the 3rd for them was stupid as well. Because, if they would have kicked the extra point, they would on be down 2, and that last drive would have needed a FG to win, not a TD. Completely different mindset then. -

Good to know I was watching the same game! -
ptown_trojans_1After the game, I never thought I would hear so fan VT fans pissed off at Beamer.
That said, again, Boise straight up played like a top 5 national title team. Their offense was solid, their defensive line was great most of the team, and special teams wasn't bad for the very first game.
It was a great game and I would list it as one of the best college games I've been to live. -
redfalconI spent all last night defending Boise State's position as 3rd, and I still think it is fair, but for them to be picking up 1st place votes after that is a crock of shit. They played a very exciting game, but both teams were sloppy, and Boise State had a ton of mistakes and got very lucky several times. Virginia Tech was also overrated, so for them to be picking up first place votes is a bunch of crap.

What a joke
Because they were the underdog in the game. BSU was favored in this game and was rated higher. Not really hard to believe they are still ranked in the top 20. They are a top 20 team. -

Actually at kickoff, VT was the favored team. The line switched a day before the game. Boise was -2, then at kickoff VT was -2.
But, they still took the number 3 team to the last few minutes, so that is worth something. -
vball10setIMO, these voters that gave Boise the first place votes are the same ones that want a playoff in the FBS--this is their way saying "we'll show you"!!!

GOONx19Michigan's sitting right on the outside at 26. A win this weekend will put them in, whether deserved or not.

Yep.
I have no beef with the polls. I am a little surprised Oregon jumped that far up, but they looked awesome in the 2nd half against that"SEC Speed defense" -
