good article here on Keith Byars. He is coaching high school in Boca Raton, Fl. and his son is a Jr. running back. Unfortunately, young Keith is still recovering from a ruptured spleen injury July 24th.

Byars said he wouldn’t blame any of today’s senior stars for taking their time with recruiting.

A running back/linebacker at Roth High School in Dayton, Ohio, Byars gave no hints before committing Ohio State, five days before Signing Day 1982.

“If I said, ‘I’m going to Ohio State,’ Pittsburgh, Cincy, they don’t want me to go visit them. And you’ve only got one time in your life to be wined and dined,” he said.

How big a steak you want? How big a steak you got?’ That was a different time. I had to take advantage of that, so I wasn’t going to commit. I haven’t had my butt kissed like that since.

Keith Byars had one of the greatest individual days on OSU football history.

In one of the more memorable games in OSU history, the Buckeyes, behind Keith Byars' 274 yards rushing, came back from a 24-point deficit to beat Illinois, 45-38. The Illini raced out to a 24-0 lead, but Byars, QB Mike Tomczak and WR Cris Carter helped lead Ohio State back to take a 27-24 lead in the third quarter. The Illini didn't quit though as they would come back to tie the game 35-35, but Keith Byars led the final 80-yard scoring drive to seal the 45-38 win. Byars' effort was a school record at the time, and the win sent OSU into first place in the Big Ten.

A game and performance I will never forget.

its a shame his kid is injured because no junior highlights mean he will probably won't get offered a scholly at OSU. Although I was surprised about archies kid too. I hope he comes to tOSU.

He was a hell of an all-around pro too
In his 13 seasons, Byars rushed for 3,109 yards, caught 610 passes for 5,661 yards, returned five kickoffs for 94 yards, and completed 6 of 13 passes for 119 yards and six touchdowns, with one interception. He also scored 54 touchdowns (23 rushing and 31 receiving).
