Gee announces 800 more students to surround the court at the Schott
-
justcompeteIt's about time...........
-
cat_loverGood move. That is where the students should be.
-
LJHe said 1400 total lower bowl and 800 behind the bench
friggin sweet -
JugheadYou'd have to be stupid not to move the students down to courtside. What is louder? A bunch of older people sitting on their hands or a couple thousand students jumping up and down and carrying on? Maybe it will get more students to go to tOSU's games since they won't have to sit in the nosebleed section.

Although I completely agree, those corporate seat licenses bring in a lot more revenue. With that said, this is long overdue. Matta has made Ohio State a top 10 program and continues to bring in top recruits, it's only fitting that they get the students near the court for that home court advantage. -
OneBuckeyeI love this, and it is about time. But to be fair the student section is great for the big games and bad for the bad games. Now that there are more seats I hope the students step it up. I think the location of the schott relative to most of the off campus housing hurts this. If it was in St. Johns location more kids would show up in the winter.

Less seats, just moved.... still good, as most games the students didnt fill up their section anyway.
In its 13th season in the Schottenstein Center, Ohio State will this season create a center court student section, moving 800 student seats to the first 10 rows behind the benches and scorer's table where faculty and stuff used to sit.Jones said the students will have about 1,400 seats in the lower area of the arena in all, fewer than the 2,000 seats they had in the past but still enough to meet demand, Jones believes. He said the students will take up the first eight to 10 rows in that lower section, and the final two rows will not be sold and remain empty so that students will not block other fans if they stand for most of the game, which Jones expects. -

That is a pathetic excuse. Sure it's farther, but OSU students walk that distance daily to get to classes. It's probably not even a half mile further. -
Laley23They really only have 1,800 student tickets???
-
OneBuckeyeYeah, but at night in the winter... pathetic or not I think that is why they don't fill it up. And when winter break is in session only like 100 students show up.

No, was 2,000 now 1,400.Laley23;463436 wrote:They really only have 1,800 student tickets??? -
WooballIt will be interesting to see if the students show up for the basketball games, and not just for the top Big 10 games. All you have heard in the past is students don't go because the atmosphere sucks and they don't want to sit behind the baskets. They have pleaded for mid court seats for years. Well, now they have them. Hopefully they will fill those up and give OSU a true homecourt advantage, but I think Gee was smart to not give them too many seats to start out with. If they fill it up and the demand increases I am sure they will find a way to make more areas available to students. If they continue to be a non factor like they currently are and don't show up and leave empty seats at midcourt to be seen on TV I am sure the University will make a change again in a year or 2.

I think this is a good way of leaving it open for selling more tickets to a big game. -
CinciX12Lol they moved them closer but then took away 600 tickets from them? That is like a gift and a slap in the face at the same time.
But Wooball could be right. Better to test drive it for a year before giving 5000 out to students and having the place be a ghost town.
The schedule also will not help the matter at all. Not exactly a lot of 'exciting' games to go to. The only good games are away in the OOC portion. -

Geeze. That seems low for a school like OSU. But I really have no clue (outside of IU) what student numbers are. -
reclegend22Duke fits over 1,600 students into the 9,314-seat Cameron Indoor. On the winter nights Carolina is in town, that number is probably closer to 2,000.

Neat story. -

Impressive. Indiana is at just under 8,000 students for a 17k(ish) Assembly Hall. Unfortunately, only about 1-2 thousand are close to the court. The other 5 usually take up the balcony.
Crean is working on moving them all to the lower level though. -

There are many more student seats in the upper bowl at the schott as well, not sure how many though. -
FatHobbitIt's about time. It's amusing that all along they said they couldn't do this because of seat license issues. Now they move out faculty and staff to make room for them. Why didn't they do that from the beginning?

I agree. If students aren't willing to walk across the street to see the game, they don't deserve the tickets. -
reclegend22I didn't claim my "story" to be the upshot of Moby-Dick.
However, I thought explanation of Cameron Indoor's student seating arrangement did supplement Laley's post nicely.
A neat story would be "best university basketball program on the planet," for which Duke could certainly argue. But I'm not that vain an author -
