Kentucky Dodson out for season, per Cal

No reason given. Supposedly academically ok. Obviously some discipline issues. I am sure some UK fan have insight on this situation. Not good as UK will have another inexperienced team...now lose a quality experienced player.

He got in trouble last year for smoking too much pot. I'm not sure if it's more of the same, but it's a big loss regardless. He would have probably averaged a dozen per game. Liggins and Miller are now the only returning guys who have played significant minutes.

    Time to step up.

    Jon Hood. Stacey Poole.

Going to be a LOT of pressure on Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Brandon Knight and Doron Lamb.

I had heard (I don't have "solid" sources, so I always take it for what it is) way back before anyone had officially declared that he was one of the five who would be leaving - that he was looking to transfer over the pot issue and Calipari's basically telling him he sucks. Obviously as it turned out, there were five who declared for the draft, but this still isn't a huge surprise.

This is the one I really want to see break out.

There is some speculation that Dodson may not miss the entire season, or at least that decision isn't 100%. Sounds like there are criteria in place that Calipari has set for Dodson to meet if he wants to rejoin the team. Nobody really knows what that is either, and if it was academic (which it doesn't appear to be), you wouldn't really be able to determine your own timetable on that (it would depend on semester breaks, getting eligible).

Dodson is also a 4th year Junior who came from JUCO. I don't really see him hanging around yet another year, just to sit out and then play again in 2011, when arguably playing time at Kentucky will be tougher to get than ever (if some of the 2010 class stays) and the 2011 class coming in is as good as advertised. Only one player graduates, and with Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, Stacey Poole, Jon Hood, Mike Gilchrist and Doron Lamb already expected to be around in 2011, Dodson would struggle to see the floor.

That's why the fact that he is staying and Cal hasn't sent him packing (which he could have easily done) tells me there is something up in the air with the situation that very few know about. I guess we will see as the year goes on, I just wouldn't be surprised if Dodson suits up sometime this season.
