YSU football coach

  • football71
WFMJ is reporting that John Heacock has stepped down as Head Coach of the YSU Penquin football. More to follow.
  • Falcons53
Who will post the first name for a new coach?
  • George Costanza
    James Tressel?
  • Falcons53
HA! HA! that is funny. Now let's see some real names.
  • Mooney44Cards
    Bob Davie

    Mark Mangino
  • Gardens35
Heacock resigned. Stadium will be packed next year with all the folk who stopped going to YSU games because of him. Right?
  • GoPens
    ^^^I'll be back.
  • Ytowngirlinfla
I'd be there if I was in town.
  • soupcity99
I think it's safe to say it will not be Mangino.

wow-the volleyball coach got let go too...house cleaning time for the 'Guins!!!

Some people will come back to the stands, but don't kid yourself. Real serious damage was done to the program by YSU for keeping him for as long as they did. You need only visit many of the sports bars in the area or sit in the stands and listen to how bad he was disliked by people when they talked about him. YSU let the situation get out of control and the AD bears full responsibility for that. The crowds will only return when they demonstrate getting back to the playoffs. Fail at that and the stands will be sparse.

Part of the problem is solved with him gone. Next, they have to win.
  • Gardens35
What's the next line? Is it "..........then they have to win multiple National Championships."?

The Blowhard Meter is buried at 10.

People will start going back when they know the Guins are going to beat the teams they're supposed to beat, and have a chance to beat the ones they shouldn't. It's all about being consistent and competative, and that hasn't been the case for a long time.

At least that's how they'll see my ass in a seat again.
  • Gardens35
Last couple of years I read a lot of stuff like "I won't go as long as Heacock's still the coach...Me and my friends didn't renew our season tickets because Heacock's the coach...My company dropped it's sponsorship because Heacock's the coach...and so on and so on". Well Heacock's not the coach anymore, why not go support the team without adding the qualifiers?

    Hey Ytownfootballfootball, how you doing?
  • ytownfootball
I have supported them, just not as much as I used to, hell I went to a Guin basketball game just last week (Kent).

I think support and butts in seats more often will increase now that Heacock is gone. I know what you're saying though, and it's more of a condemnation of the Univesity doing nothing for so long, than it is a lack of support for the student athletes.

Very well Gardens, good to see a familiar face or two;)

Gardens -- you answered your own question. Some people will return just because he is no longer there. You are obviously a coach butt kisser. So be it. But there are an awful lot of people who hated what he did to the program and for many of them, RESULTS will have to be produced to get them back. It speaks volumes that companies stopped buying blocks of tickets, that long time season ticket holders stopped buying and that the stadium was half or more empty on game day. Serious damage has been done. That may not mean crap to you, but for the athletic program, declining attendance means declining $$$$$$$$ and all sports are then hurt since FB supports most. The problem at YSU is that Strollo better not fail at a replacement for the coach. If the decline continues, I fear YSU athletics will be competitvely be destroyed for a decade or more and its already been a poor athletic dept for years already now. Face reality and demand accountability or watch YSU implode on itself.

Paladin, One more time for you the dimwitted..........I do not care who the HC at YSU is, was, or will be. I will go to as many games as I can and support the kids that represent the university while I'm there (You already know that, so why pop your lame regurgitated schtick out of it's can on the Freehuddle... It's pretty much the same readers.). I know that concept is problematic for an anti-Heacock honk like yourself. So be it.

Were you one the guys that showed up for Game 10 in '79 then didn't return until '91?
  • Paladin
    Smarty

My group has been buyin Penguin Club seats for over 20 years, thank you. That support with $$$$$$$$$$ entitles us to have opinions, thank you. Dimwitted are those who don't care who is coach, how bad the program suffers or if they win. So be it. Not many care what your position is, thank you.

Thats why there will be a new coach, no thanks to you.
  • Gardens35
    Why make stuff up?

So will you and your group be back in your seats to support the team, or does the new coach have to prove himself to you and yours with a playoff appearance before you show up?

It's a bit odd that you post your fear for the future of the YSU athletics with continuous references to declining attendance and declining revenue yet you stay away because you don't care for the coach.

What was made up in my post ?? You got a problem. Your boy is out. You are unhappy. Tough. We sat thru the declining attendance paying premium $$$$$$$$$ & still come. Address your B.S. to those who stopped coming ( and had good reasons for not coming). Talk to the businesses who stopped buying tickets. There were reasons that happened.

Talk to all those folks, thank you.
  • Ytowngirlinfla
Guys stop fighting, how about we come up with some ideas of a head coach, cause we all know they probably won't hire the $$$$ coach we need.
  • Cmhs74
I've read in other places that Davie, former Notre Dame coach is one who is being considered

It's apparent that reading comprehension isn't your strongest suit. So be it.

I'll leave the talking to you and the sports bar crowd. Chuckle there.

I am happy that many will now (so they say) return to support the team. Some of the small minded can even do that and hate the coach at the same time.
