Thats how coaches operate like it or not. Thats the profession and how coaches get ahead in it. If a coach has the ultimate intention to coach at the collegiate level the easiest way to do that is parlay one of your athletes into a job.

Word is that his coach has desires to coach in the SEC... doubt its true but thats what the haters are saying.
  • imex99
Hopefully it's not true but let's wait and see.

First of all, drop the "haters" lingo. It's stupid. People can disagree without being hating. I don't hate this player or his coach; hell, I don't know them. But IF the stories about extra cash for camps and the promises of an SEC job are true, then I'd like to see Alabama tagged with yet another NCAA violation. And if those tactics aren't against NCAA regs, they sure as hell ought to be.

By the way, I don't expect this kid to attend OSU and that's fine. I just don't want recruits influenced by factors that smack of sleaze.

Funny no Buckeye fans were crying foul when they were the benefactor of stuff like this with Jon Hankins. Musta been nice to have a coach on the Detroit Southeastern staff who pushed Hankins to OSU over Michigan. Usually that coach pushed southeastern kids to Sparty but in this case he pushed one to OSU. The entire Detroit Southeastern staff was terminated over this kind of stuff but the coach in question now has a cushy job for Dantionio.

I guess the moral of this story is that HS coaches push kids in certain directions for various reasons. Ted Ginn is a prime example of this but I dont hear any of you guys complaining about the glenville pipeline pushing kids your way.

Is Glenville a pipeline, yes it is.

But Ted Ginn does not push guys to OSU, hell he pushes them to take all their visits and pick the school they feel most comfortable at. Its not OSU's fault that their getting very good IN STATE players to come to their program. If you are a top HS player in Ohio and you have an elite NCAA program in your home state, more times than not you are going to give them a look.
  • dat dude
Doesn't Ted Ginn actually provide a bus for all the senior players to go on a "college tour" together to visit a bunch of schools? Doesn't seem like thats a coach who is forcing kids to OSU.

very, very doubtful that the NCAA tries to put a stop to it. For starters this kind of shit has been happening for decades, it is one of the dirtier aspects of the profession for sure, but this sort of deal is ubiquitous in College Football. But the biggest reason why no one will rise any objection to this practice is a pretty basic one. The greatest source for NCAA investigations into recruiting practices come from the staffs of schools who lost out on an a kid. They might know about inappropriate behavior on the part of a rival school, but won't leak a word of it if they land him. As for offering jobs to high school coaches to get their kids, no one will say shit about that because it is something that nearly every program in the country has done or has been willing to do over the years. No one will rat out another program for doing something that they would do themselves. Lastly, and most importantly, if the NCAA didn't take a systemic look at this practice in the wake of the Albert Means scandal they sure as fuck aren't going to do it over Trey DePriest.

    any updates??
  • purple_rein
He is back from Bama and plans to make his choice within a couple weeks.

His mom said that he has not decided yet and they have to sit down as a family to discuss it.

Sounds to me like the kid's heart is in Bama and his mom wants him to stay close and go to OSU.

In the end, it likely will (and should) come down to what the kid feels.

    UPDATE:

    http://ohiostate.scout.com/2/986818.html

    Decision coming Friday at 5pm.

More than likely, reports from last week were correct that he had his mind made up before his visits this past weekend.

I don't mind him going to bama. Our staff has done an outstanding job with linebackers, most of who aren't 5 star recruits. Plus, we all melted over d'andrea a few years back, and he never did a thing.

It'd be great to keep the kid in state, but we will be just fine without him.

Just think right now OSU has had two #1 LB's both 5 stars on their roster that have yet to see significant time at the LB position. Sabino will finally crack the starting OLB position and Bell will be playing special teams while fighting for some defensive PT.

If I am okay with losing big name guys at positions, LB is one of them because we always seem to produce good LB's.

I've heard he's announcing tomorrow. . . anybody have the details?

If true, I'd say he's all Alabama after just getting back from a 3 day trip.
  • Writerbuckeye
There are reports he was on campus today meeting one last time with Coach Tressel and his staff.

If true, it gives Buckeyes fans a little bit of hope he selects Ohio State -- because if his decision was already made for Alabama, why go meet with the OSU staff again? Certainly not to tell them he's going to 'Bama...he could do that just fine over the phone.

Sounds like he and his family are a bit divided going down to the wire.

come on,Trey's mom--exert that maternal influence!!!
  • purple_rein
Reports are everywhere that Trey was on campus yesterday with his grandfather to see Tress one last time.

The all out blitz is on from the OSU coaches, Braxton Miller, and Trey's family.
  • devil1197
Either way this kid is going to be heading to a great football program.

good luck to the kid. Would have been nice to get him but as others have said the class is stacked and I think we'll be fine without him
