Why are Buckeye fans not happy with Tressel?
-
KnightRydertressel's style puts me in mind of dave wannstedt , and wannstedt always seems to be under fire. college football is more wide open game . and these 2 guys take the more conserative approach as if they are in the nfl

While I do feel we are winning a watered down Big 10 regularly, if Tressel can win the Rose Bowl all will be fine.trep14 wrote:
Great post.
Cue obligatory "But we win the Big 10!!!! What more do you want?!?!!?! You're not a real Buckeye fan!!!!" response from the Tressel nuthuggers.
I mean yes, he has lost a few big games as of lately, but overall he has been much more successful in the 9 years he has been at OSU than not.
He has 3 BCS bowl wins and a national title (along with 2 other appearances). He was one blown pass coverage away from winning his 4th BCS bowl last season.
Honestly, no other coach that interviewed at OSU (when Tressel was hired) could come close to producing what he has produced.
Now are there some things he could improve on? Absolutely. But no coach in the country is perfect and makes some bad calls every now and then; we just don't notice because we follow the Buckeyes so closely.
The only coach at Ohio State I would like to see over Tressel is Urban Meyer. He is an Ohio guy and went to Ohio St.
This is not saying I think Tressel is the 2nd best coach in the country, because I don't. I do think that he is the best coach for Ohio State at the moment though and should be allowed to stay until he wants to retire. -

Good post. While I am hard on Tress a good bit of the time, I respect what he has done and it does seem to get lost that he has been an all-time great at Ohio State.dwccrew wrote: While I do feel we are winning a watered down Big 10 regularly, if Tressel can win the Rose Bowl all will be fine.

I still maintain that he should be the HC as long as he wants... but the more I see him calling plays, the more help I think he could use. -

goosebumpsEveryone likes to blame Tressel for Ohio States problems, is it possible that TP just isnt that good?

vball10setlet's see how the Big Ten fares in their bowl games before we decree them "one of the worst conferences"

Don't worry. They'll find something to complain about. The only way to keep them quiet is to win. That makes everything better.devil1197 wrote: If OSU can get the W and then turn around by beating Miami in the Shoe, people won't have anything to complain about for some time. -
krazie45I have no complaints about Tressel as a coach.....I only wish he'd hire an o-coordinator that would open up the offense and a better QB coach than Siciliano. That's all...not too unreasonable.

I'm fine with that. In fact I am rooting for them to have a good bowl season. But when you look at the Big 10's performance over the past 2 or 3 seasons, paired with their performance in OOC play, you can't really argue that the Big 10 is pretty weak.vball10set wrote: let's see how the Big Ten fares in their bowl games before we decree them "one of the worst conferences" -
kathyjaneTired of the smake ol old fashion offense. The ACC and SEC will continue to kill us in bowls until we can west coast the offense. I thought we broght Pryor in to adapt more to the west coast?

Florida State and Clemson are the only times the Bucks have ever played an ACC team in a bowl game. Neither game was in the Tressel era, so I am not sure how he gets the blame for those.kathyjane wrote: Tired of the smake ol old fashion offense. sportsfixWe have so many reasons to be unhappy with Jim Tressel, like 5 straight Big Ten Championships, a National Championship and two National runnersup.
Owning Michigan 8 of the last 9.
Damn you Jim Tressel! -

Big GainJESUS H CHRIST. There where just as many whiners when Ohio State went 14-0 and won the BCS Title.

Ohio State won the freaking game. ONLY ignorant whiners are PO'd if Ohio State doesn't score 50 points.lacknett wrote: Actually the Big 10 was one of the best conferences in football throughout the 90's. Now its one of the worst. The coaching is down and the talent it down. How many all pros are in the NFL from Tressel? Cooper wasn't a great coach either but he had boatloads of them. And for those dogging USC rebuilding or what not....whatever. They still beat the Big 10's best team on the road and have been beating the Big 10's best teams all decade long.
14 points scored on offense against a terrible Michigan team with getting 5 TO's....nuff said about Tressell and his coaching. His selection of offensive plays is worse than "Tecmo Bowl." His only savior is he coaches in a conference that doesn't have the talent to stop his plain vanilla offenses. Maybe he should think about running different plays out of the same formations as opposed to running the same play out of different formations. Its just like somebody on here said, "If I know what play they are going to run then imagine what the other coaches know" -

Tressel's "style" isn't different. It's just like Nick Saban's at Alabama. Actually Saban's team runs more and passes less than Tressel's team. Alabama's QB went FOUR straight games without a TD pass.ohiotiger33 wrote:
This. You guys have one of the best coaches in the game. IS his offense vanilla sometimes? Yes. Is he predictable sometimes? Yes. Does he win very very regularly? Yes. His style is just different, but he gets it done. I look to see you guys get the bcs monkey off your back this year.Sage wrote: Tressel has taken this team to a BCS Bowl game 7 out of 9 years. He has a national title. We've won the Big 10 Five years running.
OSU fans have no clue how good we've got it. You're not going to win a national title every year.
Tressel has done nothing but win since he's been here. Moronic fans with idiotic expectations baffle me. Tressel isn't perfect, but he wins.
OSU had much more talent than Michigan. Tress knows that. He's not going to risk anything when he doesn't have to. He fundamentally believes a 1 point win against Michigan is just as good as a 40 point win. Was it a perfect game? No. But, I never thought I'd see the day with OSU fans that were unsatisfied with a WIN AGAINST MICHIGAN.
Some of you bummy fans should just go hop on the Cincinnati bandwagon.
The SEC isn't the best conference this year. The Pac 10 is the best all around conference. This shit just goes in circles. The Big 10 will be back. Some of the lack of historical perspective on this site just continues to baffle me. -

Another ignorant "fan", would rather have the "Ohio State offense to be opened up some" and not win as many games.sleeper wrote: No Ohio State fan wants Tressel fired, we just want the offense to be opened up some. Big GainSince Tressel has been at Ohio State, Florida has finished 12th or lower in the final BCS poll except for 2 years.

lol, so because Tress and Saban run an identical offense means is not different in todays day and age? That's two coaches out of 119 in Div 1A football. Most teams are now running variations of the spread or pro style offense.Big Gain wrote:
