COLUMBUS, Ohio – Duron Carter and Keith Wells will not be part of the Ohio State football team for the 2010 season, head coach Jim Tressel announced today.

Carter, a wide receiver from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., caught 13 passes for 176 yards as a freshman last season. Wells, a defensive end from Gainesville, Ga., who redshirted the 2009 campaign, saw limited action for the Buckeyes as a freshman in 2008.

wtf..why is Wells leaving? was it a playing time issue?? I was looking forward to seeing this kid wreak havoc on some teams--damn!!!

Not sure, we were already thin at DE, he got passed by Melvin Fellows for a little bit in the spring, but was practicing with the twos before the spring game. I think he would eventually not got much PT anyway. I think the depth looks something like this below. Given Simon will be a first string DT.
From what Duane Long has said for the past year or more is that football is not a priority in life to him and that was the reason why he never rose to the top of the depth charts.

    SSDE depth
    Heyward
    Simon
    Baldwin???

    WSDE
    Williams
    Sol. Thomas
    Wells (gone)
    Fellows

    is wells staying at OSU?
  • OneBuckeye
No, the dispatch says that sources say Well's departure was for academics as well.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass boys. If you can't work to get it done, start working somewhere else. I'm sure the SEC schools would love to have "men" of your caliber. Some kids just aren't ready for the responsibilities...

Didn't Wells come close to leaving last year? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Why didn't they go the Reggie Germany route or take that Katzenmoyer class schedule? They would have been fine.

Some guys just can't get it no matter how much access you give them to the tools to succeed.

Because that doesn't happen under Tressel. Under Cooper yes, not Tressel.

That happens under any coach, at any program.

No, Cooper would have found a way for those kids to stay and that's the difference between Tressel and Cooper.

All programs have ways to make life easier, but Cooper tried his damnest to keep the kids even if they didn't make the effort, whereas Tressel isn't afraid to let them go or get rid of them.

I know what you are saying, but even Notre Dame and Duke lay out certain paths for their players to succeed (or survive) academically. I mean how many basketball players major in sociology at Duke each year?
  • jhay78
I thought I read somewhere K. Wells was tearing it up in spring ball?
  • vball10set
I heard that as well...I actually heard this has more to do with academics than the depth chart
  • cbus4life
Definitely couldn't be the depth chart, he had been tearing it up from what i heard...
