The chaos might not be over yet... more teams looking to move?

    Orangebloods is reporting that Arkansas has expressed interest in becoming the 11th member of the Big XII. Now Jerry Jones is sticking his nose in it so he doesn't lose the B12 title game at Jerryworld.

    Makes perfect sense from his perspective. Assuming he talks his old college into petitioning to join the B12, and assuming they're accepted who's the new 12th team? TCU, UTEP, Houston? Considering they have Baylor, its not like you're adding a FBS team who's worse than them.

    I saw this yesterday, doubt they move. The SEC has equal revenue sharing, the Texas10 does not.

    Long issued a statement through Arkansas’ media relations department saying the Razorbacks had no interest in leaving the 12-team league to join the new-look Big 12, which was trimmed to 10 teams with the departures of Nebraska and Colorado last week.

    I also heard Jerry Jones has nowhere near the clout at Ark. he thinks he does. However, if T. Boone Pickens wants to go....

    The money thing wouldn't be an issue if the TV deal the Big 12 supposedly has in the works will be giving teams around the same amount (more obviously with Tex, OU, AM) than the SEC.

    It wouldn't be the same if you start adding teams. Quick math says if 7 teams are going to get $17 mil each and you add another team to split up the total ($119 mil), each team's share drops to less than $15 million. One of the major selling points for maintaining the Big XII was that there'd be more money to go around without two extra teams to share.

    I could totally see Arkansas leaving the SEC; they get pretty much owned year in and year out in the SEC West and could see TCU being extended an invitation to the Big XII, which would pretty much trump Boise State's move to the MWC as Utah and TCU would both be gone

    Teams will only be added if Texas wants them to be added and I don't think that they do. More teams means more pieces of the pie, so less money per team. Unless they can negotiate a TV contract that gives them the same revenue per team for a 12 team conference as they will get now with a 10 team conference they aren't going to expand.

    Not true. The ESPN deal that saved the Big XII guaranteed the remaining 10 teams the same total payout to the conference that they would have gotten with 12 schools and a title game. ESPN has basically agreed to pay them the same money for less product because ESPN stood to lose out on too much money if these teams moved to the Pac-10 and a Fox owned Pac-10 network was started.

    I still have a hard time believing that a new Big XII with Arkansas and say TCU (because let's be honest, there's a better chance of the Pope being Baptist than there is on ND joining the Big XII) would be able to get more money from ESPN than the SEC can.

    I've read that Arkansas has always regretted leaving the Texas schools.
    TCU makes sense since they were odd man out the first time around.

    That's what I was thinking. Since basketball is the big sport at Memphis moving to a much better basketball conference wouldn't help them much. Also, since average ranking of all teams in the conference is a component of determining what conferences get an auto-bid, this would just hurt their average ranking, making it harder for them to keep that bid.
