Most overpaid coach?

  • Woollums9
According to an article in yahoo...Lane Kiffin is making 4 Million a season.

Do you think he is the most overpaid coach considering he only has 12wins over 2 seasons.

Pretty close to it. But Weis has to be the winner (or loser, depending on your POV) with this.

I'm a michigan fan but RR has to be up there. Weis definitely takes the cake though, and eats it too. (how much was his buyout?)

Weis it is, or at least was. The idiotic contract extension ND gave him was a bad move and former AD Kevin White made plenty of them.

    Definitely Weis,
RR is pretty bad, but nothing close to the hype around Weis.

Weis made no where near the 4 and 5 million dollars that was being reported as his salary. ND paid him $650k, Adidas gave him $850k and then there were some added media money to bring his total salary to $2.9 million. I'm not saying that isn't a buttload of money or that he earned that much, pointing out that the reports were pretty far off and I would assume the buyout was not the $18 million that some reported it to be.

    Had ti have been Weis

Isn't Notre Dame still paying this guy? I think he would take the cake.

I've always wondered why Ferentz is paid so much by Iowa, although I do think he's a good coach, I just don't think he's elite.

They just won the Orange Bowl, I'd say he's a very good investment.

Somebody must think Ferentz does a good job-he has won Big Ten COY awards-something Jim Tressel seemingly can't do.

Because Jim Tressel goes into every year expecting to win the Big 10.

The COY typically goes to coaches whose teams overachieve that season. That can be found in just about any sport.

I think Ferentz is a very good coach, I'm not saying that. Just that he might be overpaid compared to where he stands in relation to other big time coaching gigs.

    Here's a list I found:
    1. Mack Brown, Texas $5,100,000
    2. Pete Carroll, USC $4,400,000
    3. Urban Meyer, Florida $4,000,000
    4. Nick Saban, Alabama $3,900,000
    5. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma $3,800,000
    6. Les Miles, LSU $3,800,000
    7. Jim Tressel, Ohio State $3,500,000
    8. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa $3,030,000
    9. Bobby Petrino, Arkansas $2,900,000
    10. Mark Richt, Georgia$2,900,000
    11. Rich Rodriguez, Michigan $2,900,000
    12. Bobby Bowden, FSU(Retired) $2,500,000
    12. Gary Pinkel, Missouri $2,500,000
T12. Houston Nutt, Ole Miss $2,500,000
    T16. Mark Mangino, Kansas $2,300,000
T16. Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech $2,300,000
    18. Greg Schiano, Rutgers $2,250,000
    19. Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech $2,100,000
T19. Butch Davis, North Carolina $2,100,000
    T21. June Jones, SMU $2,000,000
    T21. Lane Kiffin, Tennessee $2,000,000
    T21. Gene Chizik, Auburn $2,000,000
    24. Al Groh, Virginia $1,875,000
    25. Bo Pelini, Nebraska $1,851,000

After looking at that list, there might be a few others more deserving than Ferentz...

I think it has to do with ESPN's bias against OSU
  • KevinJr
It's Kiffin. Hands down. I don't see how there is any other argument. If that $4 million a year is accurate that would make him the fourth highest paid coach in the NCAA. $4 million dollars for a 7 win season at Tennessee? That's fucking ridiculous.

Weis, Richrod, Willingham, and Ferentz have all had 10 win seasons that ended in BCS births. Sure, outside of Ferentz, this bunch has been pretty inconsistent, but their track records are much more impressive then anything Kiffin has done.

I placed in bold my pics. I think Ferentz deserves some respect. He has been very respectful at Iowa, which is a place out in the middle of nowhere with no in-home talent. He has to recruit his butt off to get kids from Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Florida and Texas to come there so they can be competitive.

One thing to remember is that salary is also relative to location. That $2.3M salary for Mangino goes a lot further in Lawrence, Kansas that it would in Southern California. A $1M house in Knoxville, Tennessee would cost 4x that much in a gated community in LA. Just sayin'.

I would put Kiffin at #1....

...and Mark Richt of Georgia a very close second. My cousin lives in GA and her husband graduated from UGA and is a huge fan....the fans down there just can't understand why he's still around.
  • TheMightyGators
^^ Georgia fans should probably educate themselves then. Richt is 90-27 in 9 years at Georgia. He might have the best winning percentage in the history of Georgia football.

I'm sure the annual loss to the Gators is getting tiresome though. He's 2-7 in the series.

So he's basically their John Cooper.

lol. I was thinking that when I put his record up against Florida.

still remember tebows soph year i think it was..where georgia stormed the field and celebrated after they scored the first td..that was pretty neat
