    This really sucks.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State junior David Lighty has re-fractured a bone in his left foot, coach Thad Matta said on Wednesday.

According to a statement released by the university's athletic department, Lighty suffered the injury -- a break of the fifth metatarsal -- during spring workouts Tuesday and will have surgery to repair the fracture on Friday at The Ohio State University Medical Center.

The injury was the same that the Cleveland native experienced in December 2008 that forced him to miss the remainder of the season and receive a medical redshirt for 2008-09.

Typical recovery from this procedure will take up to 12 weeks, according to the university.

One of four rising seniors on the Buckeye roster, Lighty averaged 12.6 points per game in his junior season in 2009-10, helping lead Ohio State to an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance and the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships.

That sucks, but if it had to happen now is a good time. Even 12 weeks would only take the recovery time to the first week of August.

Better now than later. Really wish it wouldn't have happened at all, not just because he can't play and practice, but because I think he needs to be around all the incoming freshman as much as possible.

I am sure he'll be around. Its his work ethic/leadership that will be missed for a while. That leading by example is tough to replace.

He'll still be there at open gyms to yell at guys and give them a hard time.

It's not the same. This really isn't a big deal, but it would be nice if he was working out with the freshman all season, instead of just being around.

    At least it happened now.
