UC Spring Game
-
Little DannyUC held its Spring Game (aka Bearcat Bowl) last night. It was the first look at the Cats with Butch Jones at the helm, and the team did not disappoint. Looks like the Bearcats will be putting up lots of points again this year. Zac Collaros shined, going 18-20 with 218 yards and two TDs. The WR corps is downright nasty, DJ Woods Kembrell Thompkins and Vidal Hazelton shined. This WR corps is about 5-6 players deep and will cause major headaches for opposing defensive coordinators. Isiah Pead did not play due to a minor knee injury, but Sophomore Darrin Williams looked great running the ball. He is very explosive hitting the holes and with his small stature, reminds me of a Jacquizz Rogers type of running back.
The defense still has room to grow. However, this group is really young and I can see a lot of development in Derek Wolfe and Walter Stewart. Stewart, a Sophomore, has gained about 15-20 pounds of muscle in the offseason and I expect he will be playing on Sundays in a few years. With his frame I would not be surprised to see him add another 10-15 pounds before the season starts as well.

goosebumpsIt was a great time, minus the rain.
Surprises that I saw:
Orion Woodard WR (fr/So?) made an incredible catch in the second quarter
Quintin Hine (Fr.) RB has very quick feet and is very elusive. also made some nice catches from the backfield
DJ Woods threw a 30-40 yard bomb to Vidal Hazelton on a trick play (perfect spiral)
Kenbrell Thompkins was even better than I expected. Hes fast and has soft hands. -

The last time I took a look in it was 49-50...this may be the understatement of the year. The defense still has room to grow. -
Little DannyThey used a special scoring system. Offense got points by picking up first downs defense did for stopping the offense, turnovers, and so on and so forth. It was not a 49-50 point game in the conventional sense.

LOL..Ok, I thought "good lord the defense is worse than what I or anyone could have imagined" that explains thing a little clearer. Still, I'm assuming the O scored more of the points, though I did see an int. returned for a score I believe.Little Danny wrote: They used a special scoring system. Little DannyYeah the offense scored and marched up and down the field, particularly when Zac Collaros was in. As I mentioned earlier, this UC offense will be really good this year--- in someways maybe better than last year. The defense is not at the elite level but I am hopeful it will be better this year. UC will switch from the 3-4 to the 4-3. Given the talent on this team, I think it is a better fit. UC did not and still does not have the roadgraders up front to put the pressure on the O. However, with four down linemen this year I think we can stop the run a lot better than we did last year. Our defense will be really young, consisting primarily of underclassmen. However, there is some talent there.

goosebumpsI'd say they will both have a great year, Wolfe is a beast, and we've already seen what Collaros can do.
