Greg Avery (Newark H.S./Western Carolina/Univ. of Findlay)

Don ProvoloneWhat happened to Newark's Greg Avery? He went from Western Carolina to the University of Findlay. Where is he now? He was a great high school player at Newark where he lead them to the state title in 2008.
-
devil1197From what I know he is still at UF.
They were good this year but very young playing multiple freshman. -
Red_Skin_PrideI live in Newark and the last I heard he was still at Findlay.
-
Don ProvoloneAvery is not listed on the current Findlay Roster/website?? Maybe just a clerical mistake? That's one of the reasons for the query?
-
cat_loverHe is no longer attending Findlay. He has a young child and left WCU to be closer to the child and mother then left Findlay for the same reason.
-
devil1197That's a good reason.
I don't think he got the type of playing time that he thought he was going to get. UF had some talented freshman this year play some big minutes. -
thedynasty1998Just goes to show the level of play at UF. Many thought he would go in and be a star, but Findlay was probably as good as the team that he left at Western Carolina.
-
Don ProvoloneDynasty - Saw U of F play a few times this past year (3 times) and Avery got very little, if any, play time. I could tell from the warm-ups and his body language that he was "not into it". Not surprised at all by this departure, It's a mistake many D-1 transfers make when transitioning into a "lower" program - thinking it will be easy when in-fact it's very hard. Upper tier D-2 programs like Findlay are just as good and in many cases better than many lower tier D-1 programs. Avery was a tremendous high school player - I hope he continues his education, graduates and moves well into his career.
-
cat_loverHe is enrolled at OSU-Newark at the present time.

cbus4lifeGood to see he is still continuing his education.
