-
just_a_swimmerWell we will see what happens now.
Good Luck Tid-Time to move on.
The natives are restless.

The comment section is showing no love. Too bad too although I do think it was time for NP to move on I do not condone all the negative comments in the newspaper. Tidrick gave all he had and the program is better now then when he got there. He just couldn't take that next step. -
wes_mantoothI am a Philly implant, but I never thought he got much out of the talent that he had around him. This incoming freshman class is dynamite, so we will see what the next coach will be able to do in the next couple of years. On a side note, Tidrick always seemed liked by the kids which is important as well.

just_a_swimmerPhil Tidrick graduated from New Phila in 1975 and he was a stand out football player and basketball player.
He bleeds red and black. I am sure this was not an easy decision. I really do not think they ever would have fired him.
He had his moments with some of the kids. Course just like everthing else with all the rumors out there you never know who to believe.
I do think this is good as long as they bring in somebody from outside.
Claymont has themselves a pretty good young coach. Think he would like to come to NP too. Just kidding.......... -
wes_mantoothYeah, they definitely need to go outside the "good ol' boys" to get their coach. There is a lot of talent coming up and they need to get "their guy" now.
-
TimberThey must have deleted comments... I did not see anything really negative concerning coach Tidrick. One comment disappeared that concerned him being wished good luck fishing... He loves to fish?
I do think it is wrong that people can make negative comments concerning any article... where the poster can hide behind the internet anonymity... this just is not right, nor is it fair to be able to publicly slander a person, business, etc. JMO... This goes beyond freedom of speech... One should be required to expose their real name to this gutless practice. It is too easy to take potshots at people. -

I agree. It is vital they look outside the NP "Network" this time. Open it up and get a fresh start. GL to Coach Tidrick.just_a_swimmer wrote: Phil Tidrick graduated from New Phila in 1975 and he was a stand out football player and basketball player.

mxwlsmrtHonestly I always liked the man. I wish him the best!

ricolaany names mentioned as potentials? anyone we might be familiar with around these parts? (IVC west)
-
golfman61You have a good coach in Dave Potpsky living in the area.
-
ricolaI'd be real surprised if Potopsky gets this job.
(In fact I'd be real surprised if Potopsky gets any job....a little too much baggage) -
majorsparkEvan though I graduated from Hiland, my Mom went to New Phila and one set of my grandparents lived there. After my parents divorced my Mom moved back to New Phila so I spent a considerable amount of time there growing up. So a part of my heart goes there. I agree with wes in that I always hoped he could have gotten more out of his talent. Solid coach and solid man. Good luck to him.
As for his replacement New Phila really needs to look outside the box. They need to find someone capable enough to set up a program that pulls New Phila basketball out of the rut they have been in and gets them to the point where they can make some serious long runs in the tournament. -
sundanceFor those Phila fans who want to go outside the NP network, west of you there's a young man by the name of Jason Mishler, currently an assistant at Hiland. He was a former standout under Perry Reese Jr. and has experience as an assitant both at the high school and college level.
I don't know if he would be interested in leaving his alma mater, but he's young and would provide a fresh face. -
september63Ok. TY Jason for putting your name in the hat.
-
ricolai thought i remembered his name come uip a few years ago in relation to this job?
-
arnie palmerThat would be great hire for New Phila. How about them going after Drew Meister from Newark Catholic (originally from Claymont and a very good coach)???
-
wes_mantoothWhat about Fort Frye's coach....he is a Philly guy?
-
september63Yes. His name is Dan Lietdke.
-
arnie palmerI heard rumor that the coach from East Canton is getting it- Chad Spurgeon I think? Not sure what is up with that.
I guess it is not a rumor anymore. There is link in New Phila paper:

wes_mantoothbooo....not the guy I wanted to see get it.
-
PariahSounds like Coach Spurgeon has work to do to win over the faithful - at least Wes.
Got 4 nephews coming up in that school district. I want them to have a good program to play in. -
wes_mantooth
lol....nah, a my ol' high school coach put in for that job, I was hoping he would get it.Pariah wrote: Sounds like Coach Spurgeon has work to do to win over the faithful - at least Wes.

PariahOh, so you had a rooting interest. Got it. Hope this guy works out for your sake and my nephews. I really liked his comments in the TR, especially about playing defense.
-
wes_mantooth
That is one thing that NP bball needs....defense. They have pretty much played like it is open gym for years now. There is a lot of talent coming up now, so that talent needs disciplined by putting it in a solid system.Pariah wrote: Oh, so you had a rooting interest. Got it. PariahIf you want to win a conference, sectional, district, regional, and for sure, a state championship, you will have to stop someone at some point. You won't be able to out-score everyone every night. Hope the New Philly (and Hiland) boys get that! I haven't seen championship level defense at Hiland since March 2007. Sounds like it hasn't been seen at NP for a while either. There are two ends on a basketball court. Offense may be the cool thing, but defense is what will take you to happy places.

wes_mantoothCouldn't agree any more.
