Who is going to the state tourney?

  • wes_mantooth
I am heading down to cbus for the 20th consecutive year for the tournament. Who is going?

Also, we are really trying to get the word out on this site, so I will be passing out fliers with some of the old Lakeland alum. Feel free to stop by and say hi.....I will be the idiot with tons of paper...lol.

Finally, I really want to get more discussion going in this forum. We need lots more high school basketball junkies, so we would really appreciate any word of mouth for this site or any ideas that anyone has....thanks.

I'll be there, on press row for all 12 games.
  • thePITman
I'll be there with my father.

Will be there in section 306 -- less crowds at the concessions and restrooms.
  • Gameover
I'll be there as well pending when I can get out of the office Thursday. Always great to hang out with my dad and the other coaches throughout Ohio.

I haven't been down there the last couple seasons. Sure miss it. The last time I went was Diebler's senior season when he played with the broken nose.

I will be there on the bench on friday at 10:45 doing stats for N.C.

I gained a lot of respect for Diebler after that. Dunbar beat the living crap out of him and he kept getting back up.

My father and I will be there in Section 222, Row J, seats 9-10 (I think it's 9-10).

Pit, I'm sure you have some great memories of state tourneys in the recent past. Always enjoyed watching your Titans play down there. The Purple cheering section almost made my eyes bleed, lol.

I wasn't planning on going, but since the Blue Devils are in it, I will bee there Thursday night for sure.

Since Northland got spanked....I am wondering what the crowds will be like. I mean, they were probably the only draw to neutral fans.

Congrats to Zanesville!! This new ECOL should be challenging.
  • BlueDevil11
    ^
It should be a very competitive league. The style that they play in the ECOL, will make most games close. Zanesville is beginning to play more like an ECOL team, now that they have no size and they do not have several scorers. I am not sure if it will better prepare Zanesville for the tournament than this years schedule did though.

Did they play a lot of Columbus teams this year?
  • BlueDevil11
Here is a link to their schedule

They played a lot of good teams this year.

Trust me. Zanesville and Dover have bumped heads for years in the tourney. Most with you winning. The league will be good for all.

I miss the days of Zanesville and East Liverpool hooking up for some tremendous tourney games. I believe Zanesville may have even won state one of those years.....and I think they were D1 at the time.
  • BlueDevil11
They won in 1995 and they were undefeated until the championship game in 1996.

I just wish they wouldn't bump heads in the tourney at Coshocton. That place has no business holding that game.....entirely too small.

In 2006 when we were there, every seat was full, and people were standing on the second floor balcony.
This year, there was plenty of room. The only crowded game was against Dover, but there were still many seats available.
  • wes_mantooth
2006...I was one of those standing people on the balcony. You could only see half the floor. My kid was lucky, they let kids sit with their feet dangling off the balcony...lol

I can't believe that this team is going to state. Think about the teams Zanesville had in 2005-06 and 2006-07. This team is nowhere close to the same level of talent that those teams had, but they got a good draw, and they have played very well so far. I never would have imagined this team going to state.

I was front row student section our first of those 2 years, 2004-2005. My senior year. It was a blast, and I've gone every year since.

Good luck to the Orrville Red Riders!
