Bryce Harper

  • Fred Flintstone
Looks like he is holding his own, leading the top ranked JUCO in nearly all offensive categories.

Would agree! Nice stats for that young man!
  • Quint
Stats are pretty damn good. Can anybody comment on the type of competition he is playing in this conference?
  • Fred Flintstone
I just looked. They are 19-5 and currently ranked 3rd in the latest poll. They typically play three or four game series with teams and have played four other teams ranked in the top 25 in the JUCO Div. I.
  • WCAL
In a little bit of a downfall, he has struck out 1 out of every 4 at bats. Other than that the kid appears to be a stud.
  • Quint
Good info guys. . . thanks!

    Currently:

    .417 BA, 21 HR's, 64 RBI's, 16 SB, 1.406 OPS

Looks like this kid made the right decision.

This kid is really something. Here's a link to an article about his team (focusing on him mainly).

The most impressive thing about it:
"Swinging a wooden bat, Harper is hitting .417 with 23 home runs and 68 RBIs in 55 games. He also can run, and proof of that is in his 16 stolen bases in 20 attempts.

In 39 conference games, Harper hit .446 with 19 homers and 50 RBIs."

    Unreal.

So what's next for him? Not sure of the draft rules and what not, does he have to do 1 more year to be eligible?

Harper is draft eligible (and most likely the 1st overall pick) because he is a JUCO player. JUCO players are eligible after their first and second years in school whereas players attending four year schools must be three years out of school or reached age 21.

Harper is a stud. He will go down as one of the best ever...
  • Laley23
The Nats are gonna be pretty good (like the Rays) if they can keep some of the talent. They have essentially already pegged Harper as their pick this year (#1 overall).

    ^^^

could get expensive for them, but I see them taking him. I think he'll spend a lot longer down in the minors than Strasburg, and that's only because Strasburg spent 3 years in school before getting drafted

-Harper's number's from this past weekend-

Game 1: 6-7 (hit for the cycle)

    Game 2: 6-6, four home runs, a triple, a double, and 10 RBI's

    that's rediculous
  • Rotinaj
lol, i dont get why they would keep pitching to him. How do you allow someone 2 hit 4 homers in a game??
  • darbypitcher22
i don't know either... unless the guys hitting behind him are pretty good hitters too...
  • thePITman
Wow. What a weekend! I look forward to watching this kid some day.
  • Nate
I totally forgot about him after reading that ESPN the Magazine.. I remember watching the video of him smashing home runs and every one was like "That's with an aluminum bat."..... Seems like wood doesn't matter to him.
  • darbypitcher22

not only was that video aluminum bat, it was also a HR Derby, so the ball's coming in like 50 MPH and not moving... I did the same thing you did.

    Now I'm convinced he's legit

I don't care if it was an aluminum bat or that it was in a HR derby........ 16 year old kids just don't do that. PERIOD

I grew up in CA, and I played with 3 different kids on my 14 yr old Babe Ruth All-Star team that put it out of the Oakland Coliseum during our Northern California state championship and regional run back in the early 90s. Kids have always been hitting the ball far with aluminum, it's the fact that he's doing this with wood now that's impressive. That homerun derby he had didn't impress me. The fact that he can center a ball against quality pitching, and do it consistantly throughout the season (esp. when everyone knows how good he is and the expectations are there) is simply amazing.
Big things to come from this young man.

Harper hit 2 HRs and had 8 RBIs in a JUCO World Series game.

Harper was ejected last night in a 10-8 loss to San Jacinto. Must sit out the next two games.
