Elmwood Senior misses Senior Night (and last night) due to Officials' Mistake
-
buckeyefallsI heard that Elmwood Senior, Emily Reynolds had to sit out her senior night game and miss last night's win over Gibsonburg because of an official's error and that OHSAA didn't reply to the appeal quick enough.
She was accessed a technical in a game, the coach put her on the bench and she didn't re-enter. However, after the game, the official reported that she had been ejected, thus causing a 2 game suspension.
If she was ejected, then why didn't the official remove her from the gym? Or, why didn't he tell the team that she was ejected?
Now, I don't know the entire story, but is it possible that this was her 2nd technical of the season? If so, does that warrant a 2-game suspension or do the technicals have to occur in the same game?
Thanks -
riderbbThe techincals have to occur in the same game for a ejection to take place. The athlete is left on the bench to be supervised by the coaching staff because they don't want and upset player sitting in the lockeroom by themselves with an opportunity to destroy school or personal property.

royal_kFrom what I've heard from people who have watched the tape, she was never ejected. After recieving the technical, she went to the bench and sat down. There was no dialogue between the ref and her or her coach. I don't understand how a player can be made to sit out 2 games for recieving a technical foul.

darbypitcher22sounds like there was an error on a lot of different fronts here. The T's have to occur in the same game to warrant a suspension....
Maybe the coach just didn't want to play her because of the behavior that warranted her the technical in thef irst place? -
buckeyefallsdarby,
I heard the coach just chose not to play her and yes, as someone else wrote, the video does not show an ejection, just a technical.
The school appealed it, but I guess it happened Saturday. Offices were closed Monday (Holiday) and then Senior Night was Wednesday. OHSAA didn't act swiftly enough on this one and should offer an apology and so should the official who reported it wrong. -
buckeyefallsBy the way, by no means do I ever support a technical, but we do know that sometimes kids get caught up in the moment and say/do things they shouldn't.

riderbbIt is not necessary to have 2 T's to be ejected, was the T for a flagarent intentional foul which is an automatic ejection. If paperwork was sent to OHSAA by the official the school must also submitt its comments to the OHSAA. Sounds like a lack of communication was missing here.
