You of all people??? You alway give your boys more props then sometimes they deserve. You wnat your football team to play hard regardelss and not back down. Even when I know it is going to be a bad out come you are the one who says strap it up and play.

On a year to year basis THe Cats should just handle them. it has nothing to do with their talent this year.
I actually was not bad mouthing the low dogs. They just strap it up and play hard. But it is just not a good match up. If it was in the begining of the year I could MAYBE understand. But to get ready for Poland and Canfield and Mooney. The numbers and logic don't add up. But I am just an old computer science major with a minor in math. What do I know!!!!!!!!!!

Anyways CmH, Good luck to your guys. I have seen them many times. I just love the 2 guards. Man is that Hodge a gamer.
I hear ya as far as needing better competition at the end to get ready for the teams you mention....although I believe Canfield is Div. 1. So the Cats will not see them. As far as proping my guys more than I should......my guys get the exact props they deserve. CAMPBELL is more than willing to play the teams you mention. Mooney is the only team that steps up and plays...and beats us 2 out of every 4 or 5 times for that matter. I cannot control the schedule as you cannot.

Bottom line, Struthers will have their chance to prove themselves to everyone very soon. Sad thing is this....if they lose....but play hard and keep the game close in the tourney....most will say they were overrated this year. That is the sad truth unfortunately.

Good Luck to Coach Sav and the Struthers Wildcats in the Boardman tournament.

And if they take Hubbard down, hopefully they get a shot at mooney! Go CATS!

Maybe if we ran some sprints during practice we would be prepared to make free throws when 'tired' at the end of games. And maybe if we shot 50 free throws a night per man, instead of lifting weights, we could make 75% or so.

The neck of the bottle is at the top.

If they can beat Hubbard tonight, win the conference out-right, then I'll have no choice but to start believing in them. Then we'll see what happens in Boardman in a few weeks.

Oats, I've heard that the Canfield job may open soon and Salem's coach is hoping to land his dream job. Do you think he honestly believes that Canfield would hire him? LMAO! I can't believe he still even has a job, there isn't anyone in the gym, including the bench who thinks this guy knows what he is doing.

    Canfield is not stupid.

We have a some great athletes and several great players, and we are young. We should be able to get an excellent coach....... ala Kopachy type.
  • SQ_Crazies
I already know who the best candidate for Salem's job is, problem is the guy parading around like the coach just needs to get out of the way.
  • CardsFlyinHigh
Well I said I would come on here and give Struthers some props so thats what i'm doing. Great job, great season. Good Luck in Boardman.

BAM - gotta love our "fans"

"there isn't anyone in the gym, including the bench who thinks this guy knows what he is doing"

"Are they even a real team?"
  • SQ_Crazies
Would you rather me beat around the bush? He's underachieved every year he's been there. Bad decisions with his lineups, I mean everyone in the gym knows it.

I know some of his former players feel the same way. And I hope you're not stupid enough to ask me who.

"everyone" though is a very bold statement -

Alright well let me put it this way, there are some good basketball minds in the bleachers of Salem games and the vast majority of them feel the same way about him. They can't all be wrong. The results don't give him any help in this argument either.

And I am sure that you have taken a survey of the "vast majority" ...
Whether you like the man or not - slamming the team IMO ("are they really a team") is not cool if you call yourself a fan - but then again - maybe you don't call yourself a fan - there is a team on that court every Tuesday and Friday (and I don't believe that I have ever seen you at a game this season- so I guess you really wouldn't know - and therefore you wouldn't see the positive chemistry that exists among the players)- and your opinion is based on third party information b/c I don't truly believe that you have any or have had any direct contact with the team or the coaches - I have been in the stands for over 30 years and have seen good and not so good - have dealt with coaches who mess with kids minds and cause more drama with a team than you would see on tv - I have watched teams win with coaches that have no class or care for the young men or women that he is coaching and I have witnessed teams that lose more games than they win with a coach that is truly there for the right reasons. In reality though "everyone" will have an opinion in regards to the coach at all levels and for all sports. I don't truly care if you like the man or not - if you are a Quaker - support the kids that are out there - win - lose - like or dislike the coach - our kids deserve our support - (we have fans in the stands that have "booed" players and rip players mercilessly) and being a former Quaker - it should mean something to show some support to our current Quakers - so try for once - with each negative post about the coaches (and you are good at it no matter what the sport) - try to make the next post more on the positive side for our Quakers - they are our kids...

And - I know this is forum for people to express their opinions - you don't have to tell me that - I have taken advantage of that with this post b/c it is my opinion... Go Quakers - (no matter who is the coach);)
  • SQ_Crazies
I absolutely do support the kids, that's why I don't like the coach. They've had some real talent the last couple years and he hasn't utilized it AT ALL. And what do you mean I'm good at it at every sport? You hear me say anything about Kopachy? Even when Miller was the coach I wasn't too hard on him because I knew he didn't have a ton to work with. At the end I thought it was time for a change though, and clearly I must been wrong in saying that they should bring someone else in???

And contrary to what you believe, I have had direct contact with members of the current team and players that played under him the last few years. Plus, you can chose not to believe me but it is the vast majority. That isn't a bold statement. And just like myself, the people in the bleachers feel the same way BECAUSE of the kids. Because we do support the players, but their coach limits them in a big way.

I'm not trying to be a grich here, but what does this pretain to Struthers basketball?
  • SQ_Crazies
It doesn't. Are you going to cry about it? It's the 3rd page of the thread, how many threads have you ever seen stay exactly on topic? I see you haven't been around long, but get used to it.

No i'm not crying about it haha. It just seems like the people of salem need to say something to their B.O.E
  • sportsforlife
SQ - good to hear that you do support the kids - people don't like a lot of "leaders" of things but while they are in charge we need to support those who they are in charge of...
I am not going to debate whether you are negative toward other coaches - you would have to go back and read all your posts on the other "forum" and I would have to do the same to support my statement - but that is not going to happen - so I will call that a dead issue.

Struthers plays Lowelville friday and Salem Saturday. With the conference warpped up, im curious to see how much the wildcat starters play against salem
  • CardsFlyinHigh
I dont see why they wouldnt. It isnt like football where the risk of injury is so high. If they were matched up first or second round in tournament then I could see resting some guys or limiting plays, but a team like Struthers I believe has to keep in rhythm.
  • cmhs_pride
Congrats Struthers and Coach Sav. What a season thus far.

SQ made perhaps the best point he has ever made: we are criticizing the coach because we DO CARE about the players, and where they are being led.

As for the change for the junior class --- for the love of God please allow the change to occur. We all witnessed how change at the top can result in instant success with our footoball team. If you fear the change, then you are subjecting our kids to another year of MEDIOCRITY and sparse fan support. Give them a better chance, make the change necessary, we have exceptional athletes and a significant talent level; this team should be 13-3 at worst right now. Lets have the courage to do the right thing for the kids, bring in a great coach/leader/motivator (as we did for football), and let the kids put up 16 wins or so and have the luxury of playing in front of big crowds who are going 'crazy'!

The alternative is to continue to do the same thing and expect a different result ................ we all know what that defines.

    Go Quakers !!
