Whitmer 62 - Libbey 61

Nigel comes up big with free throws at the end.

The final-4 race is starting to heat up. Will the loss to Bowsher come back to haunt the Panthers?

I think that the loss to Bowsher was serious, but I also believe that Whitmer is starting to come together and the pieces are starting to fit very nicely. There is no question that the Panthers are very young and certainly they too are likely to play another inconsistent game and lose to someone else they should beat, but all the teams locked in with them are in the very same situation, and in my opinion, more likely to lose a game like that.

This was a big win for Whitmer over Libbey. Several players stepped up big and need to continue doing so.
The race is on! Its definitely a win your in for Whitmer in the next couple weeks. With a tough game at Findlay on Tuesday, then St francis on Friday, there is no room for any let down. The following week Friday at St Johns.

Besides Nigel (frosh) does Whitmer have other sophomores playing on varsity? Why are they always referred to as "so young"?

The Panthers only have three seniors on the roster and of those three only Randall Kennedy gets substantial playing time.

Not hardly an answer to my question. From what I know the Panthers have mostly juniors and their freshman has considerable experience playing very difficult competition with one of the top AAU programs in the nation. I'm just not accepting the "very young" description. How about St. John's? They have 2 seniors in their top 9 players, with a freshman, sophomore and junior in the starting lineup and a sophomore and two juniors next off the bench. Nobody refers to them as "young". And then there is Libbey (almost all juniors).

I'd refer to Whitmer, SJ, and Libbey as all being 'young'.

If Whitmer beats St. Francis this Friday, they will be in the final four if they do not slip up against Woodward or Clay.

ross ford--As you know lineups change throughout a season but at the Scott game a few weeks ago Whitmer started two freshman, a sophomore, and two juniors. That line up was young by anyone's standards. I think St. John's is young but when a Senior is prominent on your team you will rarely hear folks talk about their youth due to a Senior adding the leadership and stability that young kids and a coach need.

Hammer -- that was an unusual lineup and that is not their lineup now or any other game this season. Whitmer is young. Libbey is young. SJJ is young. Central is fairly young.
