Big WCAL weekend
-
zagzig4321I was looking at the slate of games for the WCAL this weekend and it looks to be a make or break weekend for some teams.
Friday-
Rittman@Dalton
Hillsdale@Smithville
Saturday-
Northwestern@Dalton
Rittman@Hillsdale
I feel Rittman will be looking to play a good game after a bad loss to Smithville, but Dalton is playing good ball and is a hard place to try and get a win on the road.
Smithville will look to get revenge on Hillsdale after their only league loss early in the season, but I don't think it was as much a fluke as people make it out to be, Hillsdale matches up with them better than most the other teams in the league with size and athleticism.
On saturday Dalton will be looking for revenge after they lost to Northwestern earlier in the season. I think Dalton will be ready this time and handle the Huskies.
Rittman@Hillsdale could be a very interesting game...especially if they both somehow manage to pull off uspsets on the road the night before. The first game at Rittman was a close back and forth game, but both teams have been inconsistent.
Well thats just my take, whats everyone's thoughts on these games? -
Mr. RussellI honestly think Smithville is going to win by at least 15 this weekend. They are playing extremely well right now, better than any team in the area right now. The Smithies are so balanced! Orr and Caldwell score a lot of the points, but Horst has found his shot, and Bates may be playing better than any point guard in the league right now. Klotzle in the lineup adds serious defense and rebounding. I think he is a for sure double double guy his next two years in the league.
If Frizell comes back shooting the ball well, my pick for the Wooster district will be the Green Machine.
I think Milo does what he can with Rittman, but every year their lead guards are all about themselves. I have seen their point guard this year miss six seven eight nine shots in a row in close games. Ridiculous. When you have a post player like Gasser you need to get him the ball. -
1486wdtotally agree with each of you for the most part. This weekend could definitely shake thinhs up. I admit that hillsdale presents an interesting matchup with smithville - basically the only team that can matchup size-wise and they are probably deeper - they just aren't nearly as talented and i think the smithies win comfortably this time by hitting a few shots. I also agree that Dalton will beat the huskies this time around, they played their worst game of the season up there and I think they are the second best team in the league. Rittman is dangerous to anyone they play but as you mentioned, they always lack discipline. Having said all that, the difference between dalton NW rittman and hillsdale is not very big at all

1486wdyou may be right ringz, the huskies have really had dalton's number lately but I do think dalton is playing much better than they were for the first meeting so I am expecting a good one tomorrow night. After hillsdale beat the smithies again, dalton controls its own destiny to win the league outright - they just have some major hurdles ahead. I am very surprised at the smithie loss - Dalton dominated the falcons, but I do think it was not one of hillsdale's best nights and the dawgs were firing on all cylinders. It will be fun to see how this all shakes out.
-
THE4RINGZOh now come on 1486 you and I have been on these sites together long enough for you to know that I don't know anything about b ball. Only football. I was just trying to stir the pot as a Huskie Alum. Good luck to both teams Saturday night.

FlashThis does make things interesting for the DIII sectional at Wooster. Smithville , one of the favorites, but can't beat Hillsdale. Orrville, Triway, Northwestern, Smithville, Hillsdale, Norwayne? It will be interesting with Orrville playing Triway and Northwestern , yet in the regular season. May give us some answers as to who should be seeded. Northwestern has been at the last three Orrville games. I think Albert's bought a season ticket. LOL.

1486wdringz - I know how you operate! I just wasn't taking the bait, haha.
-
zagzig4321if both the falcon's and dog's take care of business tonight it sets up a virtual championship game when the two teams meet at hillsdale.
With that said I like both hillsdale and dalton win tonight and set up an interesting finish for the league championship. -
1486wdzag - one thing to remember is even if they both win tonight, hillsdale still has northwestern and dalton still has smithville so this thing is far from figured out.
-
zagzig4321true 1486 it will be far from over. correct me if I'm wrong on the following scenarios.
smithville would need to win out and have someone beat hillsdale to win the title.
if hillsdale, dalton, or northwestern win out they win the title.
who would win the title if hillsdale beats rittman, northwestern beats dalton, dalton beats both hillsdale and smithville and hillsdale beats northwestern? barring any of those teams getting upset by another league team. -
dhs22pDalton 59
Northwestern 57
Final -
1486wdwow - what a barnburner. Big win for the dawgs, keeping them in first.
-
THE4RINGZCongrats DAWGS. I now offically retire from predicting high school basketball game outcomes. One and I'm done.
-
mompovAwesome game Dawgs!! Then to have Norwayne top Smithville? Great league the year!
-
1486wdwow - I really can't belive that the cats were able to upset smithville. Now hillsdale and dalton hold all the cards.
-
zagzig4321This sets up a huge game friday Dalton @ Hillsdale. Two teams that can play with any team in the league, but in the first matchup Dalton owned Hillsdale. I know both teams have tough games remaining on their schedule, but in my opinion i think whoever wins this game will take care of business the rest of the year and win the title.
Was anyone at the first matchup that can tell us how it went down? Was Hillsdale that far off on that night, or does Dalton just have their number? -
1486wdzag - it is really hard to say. I think the bulldogs played very well and the falcons probably did not play their best game, but it was really never close. The bulldogs won by almost 30. Dalton played very good defense and did not let moore and crossen inside have much of an effect on the outcome. I do think the next game will be much more competitive. I have been watching Dalton for quite a few years now and if you had to pick one place they consistently underperform - its at Hillsdale for whatever reason. Hillsdale way outsizes the bulldogs, but that is nothing they haven't seen. If they can keep the big men at bay, i think they win again. I am nearly certain it will be much closer (bulldogs need to hit their free throws as that almost cost them against the huskies. ) The winner of this game will all but lock up at least a share of the league title as they both have some tough ones left. Both teams are playing very good basketball right now. I will be looking for some updates as I will not be able to make it to this one.
-
dhs22pThis game will be on the radio and I should be able to give quarterly updates.
-
Mr. RussellGet the job done Dalton so Smithville still has a possible chance to get a piece of the pot haha
-
zagzig4321this game could turn into a real barn burner. hillsdale is really hitting their stride right now, getting good play from their big's and balanced scoring across the board. I think that coupled with the fact that the game is at hillsdale, I think the falcon's can pull this one off, my prediction- hillsdale 58 dalton 54
