State Boys Basketball Championships

Hope everybody is looking forward to the annual fun of the State Boys Basketball Championships.

Where are we going to meet on Wed. night. Does anybody know?

Where are the "wigs" from the OHSAA staying now that the Holiday Inn on Lane is history?

You're probably going to have to pay if you stay in the French Field House/ St. Johns lot this year. Been down there for some other events and they were charging.

Anybody got an extra book or two they'd be willing to sell reasonably?

    Can't wait!

I will be there again...for the 19th consecutive year. It is different for me now though. Since ticket prices keep going up, I see myself going to less and less games each year. Last year was a low of 5 games for the entire weekend. I always park on the backside of St Johns, so I hope they don't start charging....although, I won't be surprised.

Also park on the stadium side of French Fieldhouse. Great tailgating there. Stay in Dublin and about a 20 minutes drive in. Can't wait for the state tournament and would love to see my high school there. Will Rte. 315 be torn up by then? Thought it was a several year project.

Many, many memories from this event. Started going with my dad way back in 1972 when my HS, Indian Valley South won their first of two state titles. What a blast for a young kid. My dad was a referee so we often had books and didn't have to battle with the scalpers too often. Saw some incredible games over the years. Saw Clark Kellogg's 51 point performance from the 7th row of the bleachers at old St. John. Saw the Hiland Hawks of Coach Perry Reese perform their miracle act against Lima Central Catholic. Saw Jake and Jon Diebler along with Greg Micheli win a state title for Upper Sandusky........lots of good stuff. Haven't been down there too much over the last 5 years as my kids run track. Still remember those great tasting GREEN hotdogs at SJ that you slathered with great stadium mustard. Now that was some good eatin'.

I've gone every year for the past 4 or 5, but my dad and I went last year and hope to make it an annual tradition for the two of us. I look forward to it!

The Pitman, I also must say how much I enjoyed watching your Triway Titans play in the state tourney. Coming into the tourney unbeaten a couple times and having to play some really tough, tough competition..............wow. They always were/are well-coached, disciplined, poised, and fundamentally sound. They were a joy to watch because they played the game the right way IMO.

Triway lost to Upper in a shootout a couple of years ago....correct?

In the '04-'05 season (my senior year, but I didn't play... just student section), we finished 23-4 after losing by 8 (94-86) to undefeated Upper Sandusky (with both Dieblers and Micheli) in the state championship. The next year we finished 26-1 after losing to Dayton Dunbar (Cook, Pogue, Cole, etc.).

I'll be there....started in 76 and I think I've only missed 1 full weekend and a day or two of a couple others.

to pose my question again if the M0ds will allow it: Where are the OHSAA board members going to headquarter since the Holiday is closed?
  • wes_mantooth
I really have no idea about that. I would say that it will be the closest hotel to the Schott. Is that Red Roof the closest one?

Ticket prices limited you to 5 games last year? I know your crowd that goes to the games. The between game cookouts, BS sessions and beer kept you from going to more games.

^^^Shush.....even though that might be part of it.

Are we going to have a thread for people trying to buy/sell books of tickets? My dad and I are going to be looking for 2 books. Last year we sat in section 323 row 1, which were great seats! Mid-court, first row in the section, great view. However, we're looking for 200's this year.

I am going to start a thread. :)

Probably the Blackwell is where the big wigs will be staying this year

    ^^^Where is the Blackwell?

We will be staying somewhere near the Gold Fox and Waffle House as always...lol

I'm a big HS basketball fan. I go to the regonals every year at BGSU, but haven't been to the State Championships in 10 years. I may be looking at going down this year, work permitting.

Blackwell is right on OSU campus by the Fisher Business building (down street from St Johns)

Sounds like a plan. I will be in touch when it gets closer.

That is where we used to stay...when it was pink...lol. Anyhow, make sure you take a trip down the street to Camps Carryout, we got ice cream there one time and it had a cockroach in it.....awww the memories.
